What do you love? What do you think? What are your dreams? What do you enjoy? What do you feel? All of these things are you.
I know who I am. I have an identity. It's not the name that my parents gave me, although that's how I introduce myself. It's not what I do for a living though that seems to be how most people define themselves & it's the first question people ask when they first meet you "What do you do?" My job is just how I pay the bills because I'm too practical to risk everything.
I am an artist. I paint canvases. I am a singer/songwriter/musician. I am an animal lover. I am a romantic realist. I am a contradiction. I am a homeowner. Again these are all things that I possess, qualities or objects but they are me. The things that I love define me.
I am a lover, a friend, a sister, a daughter, an aunt, these are my relationships to others. I am a beautiful woman. This is what others see (what I didn't always see in myself because I was too critical).
Who am I? If you strip everything away: the house I live in, my job, my possessions, my talents, my loved ones, everything, if I were floating in an abyss of nothingness, who am I? I am me. Unique, emotional, complex. I am the me inside my head. The narrator of my life. I like myself. I like who I am. It took me quite a while to reach this point.
You know who you are. Find a quiet centre in yourself. Be close to nature. Listen to music. Explore your soul. The things you do, the things you love and feel & think, they are you. You are a unique, miraculous child of nature. Each of us is. When you feel at peace, when you feel at home, when you feel relaxed, then you have found yourself.
You are not defined by your occupation or the physical body that others see or what people call you. You are defined by the being inside. The soul behind your eyes. You are defined by your dreams & what you do about them. By your choices. By your unique talents & how you use them. Myriad things comprise your identity. Underneath the layers, you are a soul, a being, a mind. You are a curious spirit asking this question. You are a valuable person. You are whatever you want to be...
Find yourself. Then, love yourself. If you have this, anything is possible.

How can it be done ? That is the question. You realize that one one's actions speak louder than words. Yet who you are is what determines the choices, the decisions, the options, the opportunities. So who you are is determined over the span of a lifetime and is not a reflection of any particular successes or failures.

You are what you do. Great question. Check out Ani DiFranco's song "Hat Shaped Hat" She addresses this very question. I think identity is all about your choices, or as Dumbledore (Harry Potter) would say "Your choices reveal the most about you."

My first and most important identity is that I am a child of God. There are other, lessor ones that are important as well. I'm Kathy Jean, daughter, wife, mother, friend.
I am what I am, and that's all that I am.....like Popeye the Sailor Man--LOL!

First, it is neccessary to understand the question, and I have never found a suitable definition for it. So it seems to me that asking "Who am I ?" should be placed in the realms of wordplay rather than philosophy.

Anatman. No self. "You" are only a delusion of your mind. All I see in your head is synapses and nuerons. Where does "you" reside?
You have an identity this very moment. Here, you exist.

I have an identity but I'm not telling you! I suspect you are an "identity thief" since you say you can't find yours.

You are what you want to be. If you let others tell you who you are then you have no identity.
