I'll give you a hint: How many people die each year from accidental drowning in a backyard pool, and how many people die each year from accidental firearm discharge?

Over ten (10) times more children drown each year than are killed with firearms, so I'd have to say the pool is more dangerous. Tough to lock up a pool since they can climb the fence, and "unloading" it isn't practical. Seems instead of registering, training, taxing, and licensing gun owners we should be doing that with pool owners instead. N'est ce pas?

Actually, I would think it to be a pool in the backyard. A loaded gun can be kept in a safe place, away from unintended users. Plus, it can be used to defend your home from violent intruders. A pool on the other hand is big and left open. Anyone or animal could fall into it and drown at any time when no one else is around.

I would guess it would be a pool in the backyard because I believe most people would keep a loaded gun under lock and key.

Both are only as dangerous as the care taken by those responsible for them.

My kids all learned to swim at an early age and were also carefully monitored around our pool. We never even came close to a problem because of the policies in place.

The same applies to my handgun. All three of my kids knew about it and have handled it. They all were taken to the firing range and taught gun safety and how to shoot.

It isn't the item that is dangerous. Its the damned fools who mistreat them.

The ignorance of a parent is always the biggest killer in a situation such as this. A pool and a gun should always be kept under lock.

The answer would have to be "the pool". You can lock up a gun and put it in a high place, but its pretty darn hard to lock up "the pool".

actually it's neither one, it is the PARENTS NOT WATCHING their kids, If the gun is put in a high place, where the child doesn't know it's there, plus can not reach it, I can't discharge.
If there is a fence around the pool with no gapes, A child can not get to it, unless the gate is left open.
Parents DO NOT watch the kids like they need to, A child's mind is constantly on the move, so why aren't the PARENTS?

what's dangerous are parents who don't respect ownership of a gun or a pool. if you're not a responsible gun owner you probably shouldn't own a pool either.

I keep my gun hidden in the pool's filter.
