If you like complicated games with intrigue then Diplomacy is very good but you need at least 4 players and 6 or more is best.
Personally I like' Civilisation'
Trivial pursuits is a fun game as long as you are all of a similar standard. It's really embarrassing if you are either the 'stragglers' or the 'smarties'
Nothing wrong with Monoploy or Cluedo (especially if it's more about socialising as in drinking/eating)
'Risk' is good if you are a competetive individual but it can bring out the ruthless streak in you!

Risk - The game of world domonation is good but oddly I think even for adults there's fun to be gotten out of Snakes & Ladders!

Warhammer and Warhammer 40K
or another great Games and Workshop game Necromunda and Mordiem.
Cool games but you have to glue the figures together and paint them wich is cool to if you like having a better looking army than your opponets.
