ok so me and a friend got drunk and he was going away to college so we branded a key on each of our legs, well im skinny so mine was white and i couldnt feel anyhting in that area afterward...so as I have read it is a 3rd degree burn.....anywho over the past 3 weeks the white area has gotton smaller and scabs have started to form from the ouside going inward, there is still a little white left in the center.Well I was just wondering how long this is going to take to heal as it is quite painful and if I should keep it bandaged or open to air.It covers only .5 % of my skin area and dont really have the extra money to go to a doc unless it looks infected....so your answers will be very helpful, thx a bunch :D

First I would recommend you not drink anymore if you it causes you to do stupid stuff like that. Second, keep a ton of neosporin on it.

A third-degree burn means that the damage extends all the way through the skin into the fat and connective tissue below.

Depending on the size of the burn and your general health (smoking, diabetes), it can heal in days to weeks.

You should keep it protected from injury (e.g. keep a CLEAN bandage on it) and SEEK HELP if there is ANY evidence of infection (redness, discharge, smell, increase in pain).

You should also try not getting drunk next time.

I had a 3rd degree burn once. It might actually take a couple of months to heal fully. The scar will probably never go away. My burn was from about 3 years ago, and the scar hasn't improved one bit. Lucky it wasn't very big.

It's never going to heal completely if it's a 3rd degree burn. Are you sure it is 3rd degree? 3rd degree burns usually go down to the bone and damage muscles, and they are incredibly painful.

Secondly, why were you enough of an idiot to willfully brand yourself with a key?
