It is not illegal to kill your own pets/animals if done in a responsible and humane way. It's only illegal (and unethical) to abuse them or treat them with cruelty. A rabbit would be no different than any other pet in this regard.
You can sue and press charges against an irresponsible pet owner who didn't restrain their pet so that it cause injury or death to yours. I would file a police report first and file charges against the owner. You will need to document as much evidence as possible (witnesses, pictures/video, hair samples, paw prints, etc...) Then you can sue them in civil court monetarily for the replacement cost of your rabbit plus any pain and suffering for your family caused by the loss.

A pet is a pet, regardless of what it is. If the rabbit is on your property, preferably enclosed (fenced, or caged) it is illegal for anyone or their animal to enter your property and kill your pet. You can sue anybody for anything, but you would have to prove, that Mr.?'s dog was the culprit. That could be a difficult thing to prove without eye witnesses, or video to back up your story. If Mr.?'s dog has come onto your property, call the local police, and animal control,to file a complaint. After several complaints, if Mr.?'s dog should kill your rabbit, you will have some documentation, that his dog has been on your property in the past.

they killed YOUR rabbit?
how mean.
Alright so I think it's illegal to kill someone elses rabbit because it is your property, but it is just too much trouble to sue them. Do you know how long it would take the courts to come up with a solution. Plus, if you sue them, you'll have neighbors who don't like you and it could prove to be ugly. I think a better thing to do is to come up with an exact figure for how much the bunny cost and ask them to give you more money to buy another one if you want another. In my opinion I wouldn't punish them, I'd just get a new one and forget it ever happened.

One time, when I was little, my dad gave me a rabbit as a pet. Every time that I'll come from school, he'll tell me to feed the rabbit. Everyday was the same routine "feed the rabbit". Well times went by and one day, when I came from school, the rabbit was gone. I was crying, kicking and was very upset because "my twister" was gone. Dinner time came, and there was this funny meat on my plate. My dad told me it was chicken, but it just was to rare. Well, then one of my cousins told me it was twister. OMG, THE WORLD ENDED FOR ME AT THAT TIME. But yeah, to answer your questions you have all right to sue them, IT WAS YOUR PET. The dog had no right to kill it. Also be sure of where was the dog, and where was the rabbit. Rabbit have rights too.

If you loved your rabbit, why was it where someone else's dog could get to it? They belong indoors or in a sturdy cage to protect them from such perils.
At best, you can report the dog as a stray and tell the animal control officers that it also killed your pet. But be forewarned, they will ask you where you were at the time and why the rabbit was available to predators. It is your responsibility to protect your pet.

I don't see why you couldn't sue them. The rabbit is your property and they caused the death and loss of that property. A good way to get your answer would be to call a lawyer out of the phone book and just ask. They could tell you if it is worth pursuing.

I think you could prosecute them. What sort of sicko would kill another person's Rabbit???
In the UK, to cause any harm, distress or death to any domestic animal is against the law. I think you have to have some sort of license if it's for farm animals.

I think it probably is illegal. But is a lawsuit really going to make you feel better? I would just ask them for an apology and some sort of restitution, but I wouldn't bother with a legal battle because I doubt it would be worth it.
