David stern sucks for several reasons. He changed the ball just for promotional purposes. No one has ever complained about the basketball and he changed it just because he could.
The NBA age limit is also BS. When Roger Clemens son was drafted into MLB there was no uproar. When Sidney Crosby got drafted into the NHL no columnists protested.
But when black kids are given millions of dollars. Stern stands up and says "No."
Why an age limit when he keeps giving out rookie of the year trophies to people who wouldn't be allowed in the league? If there was any truth to his arguments neither Lebron nor Amare would have recieved rookie of the year.

David Stern is the dictator I mean commissioner of the NBA. The image problem in the NBA is a media creation. The problem is the players coming in to the league now are part of the Hip Hop
generation. Young men covered in tattoos wearing cornrows make the corporate types nervous. There is no manual for new players coming into the league on how to handle fame and wealth. They do have rookie seminars about the problems one can experience when becoming a professional athlete. Lets see
we have Lindsey Lohan in rehab, Paris Hilton DUI, Nicole Richie DUI the list goes on. The kind of trouble you hear about athletes and entertainers involved in all happen in the general public. But if you or me get pulled over for drunk driving or arrested for domestic abuse it does not make the news/sports center.
About the All Star game if Stern had pulled the player from the dunk contest he would have a hard time getting a replacement.
Participation is voluntary and most of the better players don't enter anymore.

Well Stern is obviously still trying to repair the NBA's image, many people still see the players as thugs and lowlifes. The players getting into brawls on the court and incidents off the court aren't helping the situation. Stern drew his line in the sand and he's taking a hard line stance against any player misbehavior.
I think you make a good point about there not being any programs to help troubled players, they simply fine or suspend them and expect them to fix themselves, a parallel in the United States own justice system. On the other hand, these guys make millions of dollars doing what they love...is it really so much to ask them to behave themselves and act like good citizens for the maybe ten years they're in the league? Eh, I see both sides.
As for the kid Stern fined about the dunk contest comments, Tyrus Thomas, he definitely should have pulled and replaced him, put somebody in there that wants to be there.

David Stern has a lot of problems. First of all, he's more concerned about selling the NBA to Beijing, London, and Melbourne than he is in New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago where people actually care about pro basketball. The players tun the asylumn because Stern doesn't have the guts to punish anyone who doesn't commit an actual crime.
In regards to the drug issue no sport really has a handle on it.
One other point- in chasing cable money, the NBA was the first to really dip into big pots for the playoffs when they sold the Conference Finals first to TNT and then ESPN. No doubt his colleague in incompetence Bud Selig would have sold a League Championship Series to Turner had Stern not given him the idea.

yes i think so too, he gave a lot of suspensions when it wasen't even worth it, also he shouldn't have fined the two teams 500,000 thousand dollars when you also got so many players suspended for certian amount of games, and also you gave ron artest so much game to sit out(82), when only 25% was his fault, he is going to drown the N.B.A.
