I believe it was dec. 21.

anyway no it will not even though the mayan calendar may have abruptly stopped on that date, doesnt mean the world will end.
i like to think the mayan calender stopped when they got their asses whooped by spanish conquestadors...

and even if this is true it wont end.

there are 5 cycles on the mayan calendor, no? yes.

well anyway we are apparently living near the end of the 4th cycle and each time a cycle ends the world is destroyed and reborn again, so apparently it already has been 4 times

and on dec. 21, 2012, we will enter the 5th cycle and the world will be destroyed and reborn
thing is though.....
every thing the mayans have predicted, EVERYTHING has come true. the mayans were OBESSSED with space and time.

that one great pyramid they built, forgot what its called but apparently it has like 91 steps on each side plus the top platform=365 days of the year and they built it some way so like at an EXACT time of the day the shadow of the temple would form a serpent head....

apparently it was a "3d calendar"

and apparently they could predict the future from observing the movement of stars, which is really freakin weird.

The mayans think that you are repeating yourself over and over....
for example

Most people today view time a line, no? yes.
time is a line and you keep moving forward on that line.
this is what most people think of time as today.

but to the mayans, time is a circle.

that will keep repeating it self
over
and over
again.

you move forward in time, and then make a u turn in time and repeat yourself...

for example

One of the myths of atlantis was that the ppl living there were an even more advanced race then we are today, and they abused their powers against nature, and were swept under the sea.

(ring a bell? global warming, sea level rise, iceland melting?)

overall though the mayans are cokeheads.

only god knows the date when the world ends.

Let's just wait and see. We have seen global change throughout history. Like the end of Mayan civilization. Egyptian pharaoh, fall of Rome. Great cataclysms that have destroyed large amounts of humanity like the Black plague or volcanic eruptions.
We have seen millions of people killed by religions.
Yet, here we are. the world has not ended.
Think of it. Wiping out mankind will be as simple as wiping out the cockroach.
Will the world change on December 23 2012? Probably
Will the world end? Probably not.

The Mayans predicted a lot of things.

I do not believe that the world will end on that date just like I don't beleive everything Nostradamus had to say about the future.

I do believe however that history tends to repeat irself so it's not like I couldn't write a book today saying the U.s. will be in war with another country in the next Century! Then OMG! He was psychic!

The Mayan Indians regarded their beliefs as both a science and a religion. Their discoveries were not done in a lab but rather by tapping into the cosmos via the mind. Through the extensive use of meditation, they were able to discover and track planetary movements as well as space anomalies such as black holes. They used this information to construct a calendar so accurate that no present day calendar can rival its accuracy.

According to some Mayans, this date marks the end of the long count of their calendar; Set to end on a winter solstice (12-21-12). We exit the age of Pisces and enter the age of Aquarius.

On this date, our Solar system is suppose to be in a unique position, in the Milky Way, relative to a black hole at its center. A position that only comes around every 200,000 years or so. We will exit the forth dimension and enter the fifth dimension.

As the earths poles start to migrate, earths magnetic field will start to break down. Humans will be exposed to a cosmic energy that will allow them to become enlightened. We will recognize that all matter, plant, animal, mineral are bound as one; it will mark the end of wars for a time. People will finally be able to connect to the essence of god (vibrating energy) like only the most enlightened can.

The date marks a goal to be reached. Evil forces will make every effort to keep humanity from reaching the date. These evil forces are those entrenched in the third dimension, in the Material world. They have no desire to leave this age and wish to continue exploiting and endangering all life for material gain.

Wars just prior to this date could be devastating. A loss of as much as 2/3 of our population could be anticipated. Environmental damage could make life inhospitable for those who survive such a catastrophe.

Humans have freewill, the future is not set yet, nor predictable:

In my lifetime I've lived through at least a dozen episodes of someone predicting the world was going to end. It does get old. . . even faster than I. The only one I know of that was really scary, when I found out about it, was the first test of the atom bomb. The scientists weren't absolutely sure the the bomb would not start off a chain reaction of the atmosphere itself.

You believe in that?!
That would be so stupid!
No one can tell when the world will end.
Not just because of a calendar.
We have to respect them but if you believe them It's your belief so I can't argue with you.
I am a Catholic so I don't believe in such things, I believe in God.
I don't think that that day will come so soon so don't worry about what other people say.
What's important is what YOU believe, if you believe them it's your decision.

There is no way it woud be allowed to end before the new year as the police would not have filled their drunken driving arrest quota by that time, further, after christmas sales would not have been conducted so inventory levels would be too high at that time.
