all of those courses are fine for journalism, but if you're serious about doing fashion, I would think fashion courses and design courses might serve you well too. Get some experience with fashion, if you can intern with public relations firm who deal with fashion and design.

I'd suggest getting some extra languages, french , italian for example possibly even one of the asian languages chinese and japanese then you'll be able to converse easily with the fashion writers and models.

However if you end up not wanting to do fashion for good old regular journalism, I'd also take political science, sociology, sychology, economics, business courses.

hi there! well, i am currently in my final year of my media arts/journalism degree, so i hope the advice i give here will be of help to you. yes, those subjects are good choices, especially media studies, communications studies, photography. those are relevant to the career that you aim to go into which is journalism. as for the requirements to become a journalist, well, you have to have a passion for writing, particuarly writing articles. i'd suggest that what will put you at an advantage over the other students is experience. likewise, write articles, collect newspaper and website articles, if possible get used to using microsoft publisher. that's a computer program which helps you construct and create your own articles. basically, just write, write and write. as you're so interested in fashion journalism , pick up a few fashion magazines and read its artcles and see how it is formatted and what its layout looks like. degree-wise, you should do journalism but do a search on what uni's teach fashion joumalism.

just did a search on the web and found out for you, the london college of fashion in central london does a BA hons in fashion journalism, which is good. go on their website for more details, but that'll be hard to get in, though i don't see why you can't give it your best shot. also the uni. of central lancashire does a BA in fashion and brand promotion and journalism, whilst the uni of huddersfield do a BA in fashion, media and promotion

hope this helps! btw, suckmadick, get a life!

Hi

I did English a-level , and yes english is important anyway, but to be honest with you the courses you have chosen ar suite dto leading up to journalism, but i would consider doing a religious/ culture course or economics instead of photography, but if you want photography to give you an open choice at the end of the day, then stick with it, and do lot of reading into culture and economics, i worked for the herald for a while, and i think maketing is also very important, but that gets coovered in journalism course after all this.

So your ok, just start with a magazine as soon as you leave uni, or after your alevels for a 1 year.

and start a blog online.

And learn about what you can say and what you cant, they have sensorships, just like cnn cant report on somethings beacuse journalists have there hands tied behind there backs.

Good luck

If you want to get into journalism I would have thought that correct spelling, an attention to detail, and correct use of capital letters would be essential skills, so an English Language course is an essential - it is something you really should concentrate on if you want to go in your chosen direction. I wish you all the best in your chosen subjects

You need to talk to a careers adviser. They deal with these questions day in and day out. they have the answers. Don't listen to friends (however much you love them!), just go and arrange for a careers interview in your 6th form or college.
