Well, first don't buy anything. My suggestion to you is , first are you an experience ed artist? If you said "yes" then I might suggest make some of your own tattoo art probably four to eight drawings NO TRACINGS your own original work that might look good as a tattoo. Once you got that done go to one or two tattoo parlors talk to the owners show them your work and see what they have to say about it but remember your art stays with you never leave anything there unless you want them to steal your design. I also might suggest buying a few tattoo magazines they might help you inspire your work or give more information or sites on or about tattooing. Good Luck and no worries

If you want to be respected in your field and truly make a career as a tattoo artist, then you need to practice drawing. You need to sketch. Carry a small sketch book with you and draw in it every day. Take it to a cafe, sketch people and ideas, shapes and expressions.

Tracing isn't going to get you far. Tracing doesn't make you an artist. I also have heard that it is good practice to work on fruit. So take a sharpie marker and draw designs on oranges and apples. Working on a 3D form will help you work on bodies.

I think you just need to buy a sketchbook, some pencils, some black ink pens that don't bleed or smear....and draw. If you don't feel confident drawing, then start by copying something you like. Find a drawing, a photo or something, and don't trace it but sketch it our in your sketchbook. That's a good way to learn, and it teaches you to be observant.

What ever you choose to do with life, take it seriously and be the best at it that you can be. Good luck!

Learn how to trace well. Buy lots of tracing paper and practice, practice and practice first with pencil and colored pencils.

Most of them use stencils that go on like decals, then they just trace over it.
