This question was asked not for identifying any person to blame, because the parties are bigger then any one person, rather to see if there was an identifiable core principal that could draw a person in.

With 8 answers in, it would appear that for the most part people do not know much about the parties, or the parties do not hold founding principles. If truly a party does not have a founding principle that they stand on, then when you vote for a representative of that party, how do you know for sure if he or she will stand true to what they say they can offer.

Having a Democracy means that the people can vote for the person they believe will serve them best. This is a gift and responsibility that the founding fathers bestowed upon us.

Democrat:
1. Unwillingness to stand up with strength and determination against onslaught of lies and misinformation spread about their party and their intentions by right wing fundamentalists.
2. Unwillingness to thoroughly VET potential candidates and wannabe candidates who want to use the Democratic party as their sounding board.

Republicans:
1) Unwillingness to move forward, and progress with the advances made in all areas of life: technology, medicine, philosophical truths, archaelogical discoveries, and at the same time, keeping strong to the truths the founding fathers gave us: Freedoms of Press, Speech, Movement, privacy (and yes, it does exist) and freedom to disagree with their point of view.

2) Unwillingness to have an intelligent conversation where all points of view are given consideration; and thereby exerting an "our way or the highway" impression to the rest of the world.

All people are flawed in one way or another. But the worst flaws of all are those that refuse to allow the chance for open debate and consideration of points of view other than ours. Communication is 99% listening and 1% talking. Something the Conservative party of America (aka Republicans) have never learned.
