Without them knowing it, those students sent up a distress sign when they flew the flag upside down. Which considering the actions and intent of those that did such an act - it surely was a distress sign.

March 27,2006?
You're not exactly on top of this, are you?
So, this day passed a year ago, no harm came to anyone and the American flag is still waving all over the country. Apparently this particular act had zero effect on the nation or the American people.
So what's the lesson here? I would say it's that the U.S. is bigger than a piece of cloth hanging from a flag-pole in Montebello.
Edit:
OK, you were out of the country. The situation was resolved in your absence, the stars and bars are still flying in Montebello... and Americans have gone on to more current matters. But we'll all understand if you feel compelled to work through old news, since you were absent at the time.

According to international law if you raise your flag over the flag of another nation on the same pole, you are declaring that you have invaded and captured that nation and it is considered an act of war. This law is not going to be enforced against high school students, but that is the meaning of symbol and is also the reason all the flags at the UN are flown on flagpoles that are the same exact height.

I infrequently see tattered U.S. Flags flying around here, even if diminished flags do look as quickly as in awhile. people who fly the flag around here in many situations replace it while mandatory. The produce marketplace close to here has a collection container for flags that could desire to be retired; one in all our Boy Scout Troops has partnered with a close-by VFW, they assemble the flags from the sequence boxes and at the same time they carry ceremonies to delay worn flags correct on Memorial Day, Flag Day, and Veteran's Day. I notice while a US Flag seems worn; yet I hesitate to anticipate that's an intentional sign of disrespect. Oversights happen, and the regular public i've got encountered do replace wiped out flags, particularly whether that's introduced to their interest.

This is more than unacceptable. These people need to leave our country until they can respect this country and its flag. We wouldnt hang our flag above the Mexican flag in mexico because it shouldnt be flying there in the first place

And you are correct.. it is totally unacceptable. The students who did that are the kind of people this country is trying to get rid of .. ILLEGAL ALIENS. Illegals have no desire whatsoever to learn English, assimilate into society, or take on citizenship of the U.S. They're here for one reason, the free ride, and if given the chance they will turn the U.S. into the same third-world countries they came from.

You have to keep in mind that this was the actions of a small group of people within a larger march. I am no illegal immigration apologist, I just believe that you need to keep things in context.
Edit - And it was totally unacceptable, but did they do it to insult America or was it a group of rabble rousers?
