You want to buy a certain item. If it costs $6 at store A and $5 at store B, and you go to store A, where it turns out to be on sale for $4, and you use a $2 coupon, what have you really saved?

Ok... if it's an item you were planning on purchasing anyways...

At store A you end up spending $2, and store store B you would have spend $3 assuming you would use the coupon at either store, so you're still only saving $1.
