Being healthy is far more important than being fat or thin. Healthy looks different on everyone, however, so it's hard for the media to sell us on that. The advertising media needs to make us dissatisfied with something so they can sell us a product to remedy it. Have you noticed that's how they work? Analyze commercials! Many start with asking "are you tired of..." and then try to sell a product that will fix it. Watch them. You'll see what I mean.
So, the advertising media and other media have sold us on the idea that we need to look a certain way (thin) so we will buy diet pills, diet foods, diet plans, slimming clothing, exercise machines, etc etc etc ad nauseum.
If we were happy with ourselves and our shape, we'd have no need for what they're trying to sell us. Think about it; scary isn't it, how we've been duped?

Women want to be thin because it's everywhere. You see it in the fashion mags, you see it at the stores, and even at the supermarket or pharmacies. You can walk down an isle where they carry diet supplements, there are so many products available now to lose weight. It's terrible! How can a woman not feel inferior when all she sees are diet fads, new diet books, skinny models on the windows of every store in the malls. It's not even good to be a size 8 anymore. It's all about being a size 0,and that is so sick. There are little girls out there wearing that size at the age of 10.If you're wearing a size 9 they call these young girls fat.It is true what they say, women and young girls are dying to be thin. It's really happening right now.

Women want to be thin because being thin is whats all over the media. You see all of these commercials and magazines of thin women. And the media pushes people to be thin by showing commercials of all these different weight loss pills and excercise machines that can help you lose weight. When people see celebrities like Nicole Richie, Paris Hilton, Mary-Kate and Ashley looking like sticks they think thats what they need to look like to get attention. So I hope that kinda answered your question.

being thin seems to have become the `in thing` and to be honest, when i see these models walking down the cat walk like human skeletons it makes me sick. size 00? i think it`s disgusting how these girls starve themselves - and they think they look good? is it any wonder that the younger kids are all growing up with anorexia, bulimia and such like. come on you fashion bosses - try using real women. what`s the matter with a size 12, 14, 16 or even 18. we are beautiful too. we are healthier and probably loved more than the painfully thin bags of bones that totter down that cat walk with legs like twigs, and ribs sticking out. yuk.

Women often want to be thin because they think that if they look better then they will feel better about themselves. That is not always true because you should be happy with the body you have. And if you do want to be thinner the right way to do it is by excercise and eating healthy foods!!!
Most girls think that being skinny, like most actresses and models are, will make them look better and there for be noticed and liked more.... I think that that is the main reason.
GOOD LUCK!!! HOPE I HELPED!!!!!

It's definately the media, average sized girls such as charlotte church are called fat even though there is nothing wrong with her. She's a normal average size. I think that people's thinking is changing, and we are now seeing curvier and healthier looking models. It's a shame society bands people into only 2 categories, you are either too thin or too fat, whatever happened to just being normal????

Women want to be thin because people they see are thin, TV infomercials show diet pills and diet plans, and it has become an everyday sight.
A major reason for this is Hollywoo stars say its ok. Teen seen their idols and want to be thin or even thinner. Even a parent can do have this same effect.

Women want to be thin because the media (and peers) tell women that thin is the most attractive and desirable way to be. I've suffered with bulimia and anorexia for ten years, since I was 15, and it all started when I saw models in catalogs looking skinny...I compared myself to them and decided I was fat. Of course, there are probably deeper reasons for my eating problems, but I won't go into that here.
Even though we know that super thin models and celebrities are bad role models for our young girls, we continue to glamorize them. I don't see an end to it...

Sadly it is other women who tell us to be thin - beauty and fashion editors who work for magazines where their main advertisers are fashion houses and perfume houses run by (mostly) gay men! So, ultimately, it is gay men (think of a non-gay fashion designer .... hard, isn't it) who is designing for his boyfriend, but modelling the clothes on stick-thin women with no breasts and no hips ... i.e. boy-shapes. They make loads of money selling to neurotic rich women who are ***-hags and, with this money, they purchase advertising in magazines. The beauty and style editors fall under their spell and, in turn, promote the skinny woman on their pages. And the average woman in the street turns the pages of these magazines and feels inadequate, unloved and fat. Whereas the average man wants his woman to have a few curves and soft plump bits on her.
It is a conspiracy of the fashion industry and we women fall for it.

I think that all women want to look like the supermodels we see on the cat walk.
They look fabulous, it is true, and women wish they looked the same.
I think Fashion designers try to suggest us that tall, skinny women are indeed beautiful. But i guess it is not such a good ideea to become anorexic, i think every woman is beautiful the way she is
