Does the car have an alarm? If it does, most alarm / car audio shops will be able to cut into the system and add the use of a remote aftermarket fob. If it doesn't have an alarm, it may be wise to have one fitted that'll incorporate the use of the central locking. (Not expensive to do).

Central Locking Installation

If you have a factory alarm fitted there should be provision for a dealer upgrade to fit the RCL unit.

If it's an after market alarm (someone else installed it) then some of these have provision for an RCL unit as well.

When you alarm the car with a key fob, it locks the doors as well.

I bought an alarm for £50 and a RCL unit for £25 and fitted it to my second car. It was fairly straightforward. The plans were clear. I also picked up a central locking system for £20, all from Maplin, albeit many years ago. It all worked like a charm.

It varies by vehicle, and whether or not you are already equipped to have a remote. If you are it would just be buying and programming the remote. If not the cost would increase dramatically. If it's a newer model, it probably just means buying the remote. Ask at the dealer.

get the full central locking from an old one in the scrappys and the wiring loom. should skin you around £40 then buy the remote kit from a good auto shop. seen them for £25. not a hard job to do if you get the basic central locking kit from a mk3 golf.

Most places will say to fit a new remote control sysytem, wiring and alarm in one - should cost around £200 for a half decent setup.
