Im in a debate right now over the difference between hillbilies and country people. what are the diffrences?

What are the differences between hillbillies and country poeple. Are they two different cultures or ways of living?

hillbillies is a derogatory name for rural people of the Appalachian area in the mid - Southeast part of the US. Country people is a neutral name for rural people anywhere.

I always thought of the 2 categories as Hicks and Rednecks. Hicks are the folks living in the mountains in homes made of pallets and particle board and tarps. They drive a beat up trucks and roadkill is a major food group. These folks just live anyway they can and stay out of other peoples way. You only see them at Walmart a couple times a month to stock up on yarn and Twinkies. Rednecks are usually found around a bonfire most nights with a pile of beer cans nearby. They drive huge 4x4 trucks with gun racks in the rear window and quads in the bed usually pulling a bass boat. Most of them are construction workers or plumbers and all of them are baptists. Shiny belt buckles and cowboy boots and hats are common attire. The major difference in the 2 lifestyles is in the fact that rednecks are usually proud to be a redneck. This attitude usually results in bar fights over whose girlfriend has the biggest **** or who has the most accessories on their shotgun.
