I try to understand them more nowadays...

I travel quite a bit (never Southwest) and I have an enormous compassion for the all of the people that work as hard as the airline staff and crew.

I have much less compassion, borderline contempt, for many of the passengers.

I don't know where it's written that just because somebody pops two to three hundred bucks for a seat, they have the right to abuse, insult and degrade the people that are working for them.

Over the years, I have been involved in two emergency landings. One fairly serious, the other minor. Add to that a number of times going through severe turbulence. Every time, I was amazed at the professionalism of the flight crew. On one of these occasions, one of the flight crew suffered multiple injuries and broken bones. She was more concerned about the passengers and the aid her staff was supplying to the passengers than she was for herself.

People seem to forget. The flight crew are not waiters and waitresses. They are a very well trained and brave group of people whose primary function is to protect the passengers from harm.

Americans wanted the cheapest form of air travel. That means the flights are going to be booked to capacity, and the seating room is reduced. Well, they got it. Flying has never been less expensive. Nor irritating.

But don't blame the people working there.

You get what you pay for. Don't like coach? Upgrade to business or first.

I don't have the opportunity to travel much but boy that is one place that I wouldn't want to work the abuse that some people hurl at these poor people just trying to do their job and earn a living man I sure makes you wonder if a lot more people weren't raised by wolves and then let loose on the poor unsuspecting public, I have never in my life treated someone in the way that some of the passengers on that show do, one episode where the drunk jerk trying to get to Oakland threatens to beat the he** out of the Southwest guy because he won't let him fly because their drunk now that is a responsible and mature way to deal with the problem I didn't recall the scene where the Southwest guy was forcing the alcohol down his throat. Definitely feel sympathy for these people what a thankless job.

I always try to be polite to airline staff, waiters, sky caps, taxi drivers, sales clerks, etc. People are people and most of them like to be treated well. However, I won't be treated rudely and I don't mind being assertive if the situation calls for it.

I think it does especially with all the abuse they take from folks who are late and miss their flight and blame the world on everyone else.

Not necessarily, but it does make them seem more human.
