You are never too old to start gymnastics. Although ou are way taller than me, and I am in nineth grade. I am 5", 14 years. So I am pretty short. It sounds to me that you are very flexible, I can't even kiss my knees. I am just a begginer too. I am a little flexible as well, but I am almost there doing my splits. Yes there is a defenat chance of you being in compitiotions if you work hard, try stretching everyday so you get flexible, thats what I do. And it works.

I started gymnastics when I was 15 right before I turned 16. I was worried about being too old too. But its really not a problem. Just learn at your own pace. Since most people start gymnastics when they are very young, when I started, the beginners class was made up of 6 and 7 year olds, so I just take private lessons. But I have taken some mixed ages classes that had little kids in it. Its not that bad. Just don't get discouraged when the 10 year olds are so much better than you. ^_^ You'll learn at you own pace and eventually get to an advanced level. I'm 17 now and most of the students in my school are younger than me. But there are a few people that are 15-20's. I'm not tall (4"11"), so I can't really answer that part. But I do know one of the guys at my school is really tall. His class is before mine and I often watch it. He seams to struggle with some stuff a little bit more than the others because he's so big, but nothing seams to be a big problem for him. This guy is also probably the oldest guy at the school. (I think he's 20 something...) But that doesn't stop him either. He takes a boys class with two other boys. One is about 14 or 15 and the other one is 11 I think. So its not really a problem to have mixed ages either. I think it would be fine for you to start gymnastics. In fact I highly recommend it. Its really good for you and its fun! Also, another thing I recommend is martial arts. I've been doing TaeKwonDo since I was 9. Martial arts are also fun and good for you. And usually they have classes that are of mixed ages. Example: The Oldest person in my class is 50 something, and the youngest person in my class is 13. And one of the other people that answered is right, height will help you in TaeKwonDo. One of the main things we practice in TaeKwonDo is kickboxing. Its something I've always had a little problem with because I'm so short. Its not really that I'm bad at it because I'm short, but I usually have to use a very different strategy than my taller opponents. A less simple strategy... But anyway, tall people have a good advantage in TaeKwonDo.

I wouldn't count on the oylmpics, but you can definitly get enough skills to compete in USAG!! You can even get enough skills to make college. You definitly not to tall to do gymnastics and definitly not to old. I started in 7th grade and made it pretty far.

Truly, you are too old and probably too big at this point to ever seriously compete. There's no reason you shouldn't continue gymnastics for fun and fitness if you enjoy it but you will never compete at an elite level - you are too far behind the gymnasts who started training at preschool age. By the time you mastered the necessary skills - if you could at all - you'd be at retirement age for gymnasts.

you're never too old for something you love. you just have to adjust your body a little bit more if you get to tall for the bars. Or even adjust your routine. good luck :]

You're not too old or tall! You seem pretty good from the stuff you listed.
