Can you get a job as a school psychologist for a middle or high school with a masters in clinical psychology?

Also, does the job entail mostly one-on-one counceling for kids, or more testing for things like ADD or something of that nature?

Thanks.

You can become employed as a school guidance counselor or school psychologist which are supposed to kind of do the same thing, however guidance counselors do more than just counsel students. In fact, one of their biggest roles is to assist students in making a schedule and college applications.
If you want to do stuff like that, then you'd want to apply to be a guidance counselor.
A school social worker or school psychologist has a little more to do with actual therapy for students. They don't do too many psychological assessments, b/c really you'd need to be a doctor to do that. So no testing would be involved.

It depends what state you are from. In most states you must have at least a Master's degree from a school psychology program at a university. As a school psychologist I have to disagree with the first person who answered that a counselor and psychologist have similarities because a school psychologist and school counselor are two completely different careers. A school psychologist has many roles including conducting assessments(I.Q tests, classroom observations etc) for special education and at-risk students, designing interventions for academic and behavior problems in the classroom, conducting both group and individual counseling, and dealing with mental health issues in the schools. The best place to look for information for your area is the National Association of School Psychologist(NASP) website.

NOT in california. In CA you have to be credentialed and have your masters in either School Psychology or School Counseling.

School Psychologist treat behavioral problems they do testing therapy..etc.

School Counselors do academic counseling school, college, career, etc...

At some schools there jobs can be interchangeble, but that is changing.

You should definitely find out what the qualifications are in Your state! Good luck! Go to a local uni's website and they should have all the info.
