80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

Life is the time you are alive, in life you simply live because you can, there is no meaning to it, possibly because we do not want to die, and are afraid of death. Its true that no one will remember you after a while when you die, you will be forgotten, therefore to some people life is about proving their existence, to prove that they actually lived and will be remembered for as long as possible. Another reason people live is because of religion, churches tell you stuff, the bible tells you stuff, all religions tell you stuff, that simply say that you will be rewarded or punished after you die, or something of the sort. Another reason a person lives is because if you die the people around you will be sad. I personally, live because i can, even though it is tiring, and tormenting, and we are all suffering, and dying. I continue to live. Another thing is that though you mom might be sad, and your dad is a jerk, well sh*t happens, what can you do about it, but i am pretty sure, you arn't always 24/7 depressed and sad, and i am pretty sure you had your happy times.
We humans are flawed to see more of the bad side of things then the good. Look at your life, look at the good side of things. If your life sucked that much you might have already committed suicide...

You just described 80% of the families out there!

We don't get to choose our parents but we can choose how we live our lives. Save your money & move away from them & start a new life on your own. The meaning of life is to live it fully, to enjoy it. Do what you love, follow your dreams. Love yourself above all. If you didn't like the parents you got then be your own parent. Give yourself a pep talk. Be your own nurturer.

Good luck. We all have dysfunctional families of some kind or other. My mother was depressed, selfish & controlling & my father was distant & uncommunicative. Oh well. I treat myself better than I was treated. Forgive them. They don't mean to be the way they are. They don't know any better. Let it go. You know better & you can do better for yourself.

Take care.

Don't live for your mother or your father. Live for yourself. Find meaning within what you do. Always be open for the opportunity to discover new things that can tell you more about yourself. Take it from someone who is now old--you can overcome all seeming disasters and bad people in you life if you decide to. Yes, it takes will, and yes, it takes courage, and yes, it can take a long time, but you can do it.

Live for yourself. Discover the real treasure that is you. This is the meaning of life.

i don't think anybody really knows what the meaning of life is until they are gone. i think thats the goal in living ur life is to find out what it means. to some life is bad and to others its good. main thing is stuff happens. we have to find ways to solve problems and not runaway from it. life is like a challenge. you either accept it or u don't. when u accept it , u make ur own destiny. destiny doesn't make u. idk....u find the meaning as the days go by. as to ur parents, they are in UR life, but they are not in charge of ur life. only u can do whats right for u.

You are not the only one..I understand you.
I believe you should live for you not for your mom and dad. Do things that make you happy. You can't do anything about your parents. Get everything good they can give you and forget about the other stuff.Believe me sweety, it works..

You need go explore, explore your mind, your hopes and dreams. You have hopes and dreams, you must have some. The meaning of life is to enjoy yourself, fulfill yourself. Become lots of different things, an artist, a poet, an author, a teacher, a healer, try one, do something to make YOU happy. Do it with wild abandon, dance like nobody is watching, work out what makes you happy and do lots of it. Work out what makes you miserable and avoid it like the plague.

PEACE & GOOD HEALTH

It is is your Soul the picked your parents.
It is your Soul the picked the body you are in.
Your Soul is here to experience life and to learn another lesson like
compassion or greed or love or hate or forgiveness etc.
So make the best of it and learn to enjoy life because it is short

Life is a long lesson in humility.
James M. Barrie (1860 - 1937)....There is much to live for, you have yet to die, until you see that you are already dead. Then you might decide you want to live.
