Im just starting out on ebay and I have paypal. I won my first auction and I sent him the money through paypal. Its been 5 days since I sent the money and he hasnt sent me a positive feedback. I sent him an email and asked him if he recived the money but he never replied back. Also, under my account status, it says I need to leave a feedback for him when he hasnt even left one for me yet. Should I leave a feedback, knowing that I havent even recived my item yet? Is he taking advantage of me? What should I do?

If I buy something on Ebay I never leave feedback until I receive the item as promised. The transaction is not finished until then so I do not feel I can leave feedback on how a transaction went if it is still ongoing. If I sold on Ebay I would leave feedback once I received payment (and it cleared if it was a check or money order) and I mailed the item. At that point the purchaser would have fulfilled their end of the transaction so it would be time for me to leave feedback. You cannot make someone leave feedback (I have had a few people who never did although that is very rare in my experience). I have also had some people not answer emails, but the items showed up with no problems (some people who sell a lot on Ebay may get busy and not answer if they feel there hasn't been sufficient time for the items to arrive...I consider this rude, but that is just me). Your account status will say you need to leave feedback until you either leave feedback or delete the item from your list. I would not advise anyone to leave feedback on a transaction until the other party has completed their part.

When I first started on Ebay a friend gave me the following advise...always check the feedback before you purchase an item and decide based on the reviews if you want to deal with them. Also consider payment options...I know several people who will not deal with sellers who only take checks and money orders as you have little protection from them just taking the money and running (some people may have legitimate reasons for this, but the buyers have legitimate concerns and reasons to protect themselves).

You are not obligated to leave feedback, but it is nice to do so.

But don't send any feedback until you receive the item (of course, if you NEVER receive the item, then you should leave negative feedback). Many sellers do not leave feedback for the buyer until the buyer has left feedback, and this might be the case with yours. Have you tried emailing the seller again to ask status?

I always try to keep in mind that sellers are people too, and just like anyone else, there are things that can keep them from replying to your email(s): death in the family, computer problems, your emails may have gone to their junk email folder. Does the ebay seller information provide any other way for you to get in touch with the seller?

You should wait a bit longer. Five days isn't that long in actuality, although it seems like an eternity when your waiting for something you want. Leave your feedback after receiving your item.

One of the nice things about eBay is the fact that you can check on the sellers previous performance. Go with the ones that have 95% - 100% positive feedback. You can also read about your sellers previous history by reading others feedback on him/her.

Good luck!

leave feedback when you get the item, the buyer usually sends the feedback first, and did you read the shipping details, it may just be a seller who takes a while to ship. It has takes 2-3 weeks sometimes to get simple things on ebay for me.

JOSEY,

since you are new to ebay, i would like to suggest that you read this ebay discussion board:

http://forums.ebay.com/db2/forum.jspa?forumID=107

that is the Trust and Safety forum on ebay. you need to learn how to protect yourself. that board can teach you a lot!

there are many ways to get SCAMMED on ebay.

first never buy from a seller with less than 98.6% feedback! 95% may be great in school, but on ebay it STINKS!

90% of all designer items on ebay are FAKE or non existent.

if it seems to good to be true then it probably is!

NEVER send any seller money through WESTERN UNION! it is a BIG FAT SCAM!

look at the sellers feedback carefully.

has he sold like items before?

or did he get all his feedback from buying e-books and small priced items.

BEWARE ANY EMAILS that claim to be from ebay or PAYPAL!

NEVER click on a link in ANY EMAIL!! this is an attempt to get you to sign in and give out your ID and PASSWORDS!

PAYPAL and ebay DO NOT send emails with links!

don't let any seller push you past the deadlines for filing a report in case you don't get your items!

the smartest thing you can do to protect yourself is ONLY buy from sellers that accept PAYPAL. then fund your purchase with a CREDIT CARD! not cash from your bank account!

be patient with your current seller. 5 days is not that long.

shoot him an email and gently ask for him to notify you when your item has been shipped. he may get the hint and email you back.

leave feedback AFTER you get and inspect your item. NEVER BEFORE!

PAY SAFE, STAY SAFE!

have fun!

Do not leave feedback until you recieve your item. The feedback is for commenting on how quick the item was shipped to you and the quality of the item that he shipped to you. Just be patient and you should recieve you item in a couple of days.

If you begin to sell on there be causious of people who buy and pay with cashier checks or any types of money orders. my brother almost got scammed for 4500 on a bronco he sold on there. Luckily he caught it before the item was puicked up for delivery

Typically you leave your feedback once you've received your item. At that time the seller leaves his feedback.
If you are worried about your item, contact the seller. Usually they will let you know once the items has shipped.

Look at the buyers rating and reviews and also there return/ warranty policy... if it looks good and is for a fair price then go for it Refurbished is a product that was sent back to the manufacture and then was fixed into working order... ie it would be the ipods that people and stores send in to Apple for warranty exchange
