The shop where I work (Holistic Health Shop) sells loads of these Neti pots and saline solution. I've never tried it and would be very interested to hear from anyone who has ot does it regularly. What is it like and does it really help with your nasal congestion?

It helps me a lot. After I had sinus surgery for chronic infection, the sinus doctor told me to use a baby bulb to flush my nose with saline solution. I had seen the neti pot in the health food store, and asked him about it - he said it would be a good idea to use it (after I was completely healed from the surgery, of course).

I use it daily now, and have found that if I keep it up regularly, it helps quite a bit (I have pretty bad allergies). If I slack off for a couple of weeks and stop, I'll get a sinus infection.

If you can find the book "Sinus Survival" at your local health food store or library, I highly recommend it.

A caveat: Check with your doctor before using the neti pot - it isn't recommended for people who have nasal polyps or a deviated septum.

Edit: the jala neti I use and have read about doesn't have anything to do with vomiting. That must be a different type of cleansing.

The neti wash I use is just a method to rinse your nose & sinuses out with salt water by tilting your head over the sink and pouring the water in one side of your nostril and letting it flow out of the other side.

I had heard that by using an atomisher and mixing a 50 to 50 solution of hydrogen peroxide and then breathing that into the nostrils will help cleanse them of bacteria and clear sinuses.

It is wonderful and my ENT recommends it. It is gross, but it really cleans out the nasal area. It takes a few times to get it to work totally (loosen things up), but it is great.

In yogic terms it is called Kapal bati.
It is terribly good. When it was done to me during my yoga training.
Early morning in empty stomach they pour salt water in a special container like a tea kettle through your nose in both the nostrils, one ofter another. They then tell you to slowly insert your finger to touch your tonsils, and you vomit all the 2 liters of water. A experience you have to have.

I have known it to cause severe infection. Any benefits are not long lasting.
