Do you think dreams are subconscious desires, just random neuron firings, a way of working through the days events or what? What do you think dreams are?

Expanding on this. Do you think that because you dreamed it you want that? If so what of nightmares?

A lot of things can 'trigger' dreams, whether good or bad. Certain types of food can cause different type of dreams. Daily experiences, even those we've long since forgotten, can cause us to dream about them. This is why we wake and think to ourselves, "Whoa! Where did THAT come from?!" I've heard, one can 'cause' themselves to dream about a certain situation or person, just by 'willing' it so. I've yet to be able to do this... I'm not one of the lucky ones I guess. :)

dreams are from the subconscious. they are from things you've seen or heard about and can tell you things about yourself. some can be prophetic. I think they serve a purpose, even if we don't realize what that is.

a way to keep your brain warm when you're asleep.
however, dreams use images that weigh heavily on your subconscious. in this way, they can help people sort out what really matters to them

Without dreaming, we would all go crazy. There was a Star Trek:TNG episode about that.
