I've seen people who have emails at example.com domain. I can't find the place where I can open an email account with name@example.com, so if anybody knows let me know ;)

Actually it wasn't for documentation purposes, a person I used to have on my msn contact list had exactly that email (@example.com) :)

I thought that it is one of the several similar domains offered by www.mail.com, but then I checked and found that this particular example.com is not listed there. And when you type www.example.com in the browser, this following message comes up:

You have reached this web page by typing "example.com", "example.net", or "example.org" into your web browser.

These domain names are reserved for use in documentation and are not available for registration. See RFC 2606, Section 3.

So, I think what you saw was an example for documentation purposes and may not be a valid email domain name.
