Religion... Greek gods, Roman gods, Egyptian gods, Chinese gods..... the list goes on and on. In the beginning of civilization each city had it's own god.... today and throughout history religion has been the main cause of war. The answer to your question may be so vast that it may never be answered in it's entirety. However, one answer is that people aren't necessarily insecure but rather seek an answer to their existence. Some may say that it is lack of intelligence which leads people to believe in religion.... science points to a part of the brain that is found to be active during religious participation. Some people believe because others believe. Some believe because they are lonely and seek a group that they can belong to. There are reasons as many as the people who believe in religion as to why people believe. The main thing with religion as with politics is that those in power seek followers. I believe that it is important to believe that there is a being far more powerful than man who cared enough to let us have life.... But I will not let another human being dictate to me what that being is. The insecurity that you speak of rests with peoples inability to realize that everyone has the power within themselves to live a life that is meaningful. Religion seeks to provide meaning- in return- the believer must provide a lifestyle and more commonly they must provide material goods to those who lead them to an answer for their question. One needs only to look within themselves to realize that they are what they are... Answers are what make people confident that they are living as they should be living. In this world... there are as many views to why we are here as there are people. Ultimately, the one thing that man realizes is that there is no real guidelines to how one should live properly.... The result is that they choose to have an answer so that they can feel like they are living properly.... The main thing that people need to accept is that other people need to be treated in such a way that insecurity transforms itself into maturity. I know that my answer might not touch on what you were seeking as a response but I hope at the very least that it is acceptable to others and doesn't offend anyone... if it does I am truly sorry and I wish only that you could open your heart to the many possibilities that living has to offer.

This question is ambiguous and really needs qualifying, as it can be interpreted a number of ways and uses a presumption.
1. Does it mean that anyone who is insecure past an arbitrary point on the continuum of security, resorts to religion and conversely, those who are less insecure don't, or does it assume that all religious people are insecure?
There would be both secure and insecure people in society who were both religious and non-religious. To say that only religious people are insecure is just an inference, as a lot of religious people would say they actually gain security from their religion.

I liked the girl's answer that said she believes in him because "He is". He is what? He is where? If he is then show all of us where he is because the asker obviously doesnt know where he is or else he wouldnt have asked this.
This is why the asker posted this question because every response from religious zealots are "because he is" "because the bible says so" Understand that you look at people currently who say the exact same thing that those who contributed chapters to the bible and you look at where they are, they are in the nut house which is where matt mark luke and john would have been if psychiatry were invented back then.
People believe in God because they want to pawn off everything that doesnt go very well on someone else. When an atrocity happens rather then say "something needs to be done, people should stand against this" they say "it's God's will." If God is so loving and caring then why is it that the rapists and murders live long lives, yet all the people who mean something in this world die early.
I do believe VanHammer ends his response well saying he is not religious but he has his own set of beliefs that guide him and that is great. That is what people should have, not the organized religion crap you see now that is just about money like everything else is.

Well to begin with, religion stared with deities (think Greek). Many people had questions about the world, natural experiences and of course, death. To me, religion is just different answers to sometimes the same question. Think about how many explanations there are for death. the Christians say you will be judged by a being who made the universe, the ever-blessed one. Hindus believe in a caste system in which the top level of being is a cow. There are many explanations. Some people will point out that the uneducated peasant class made up religion to satisfy themselves and that the wealthier people tend to be less religious.

dying is the continuation of religious existence with God. The dying you're pertaining to is the dying of the actual physique which will desire to take place via fact the physique mass is derived from perishable components ( nutrition ). the real you ( the spirit of God in you at theory) which defines you and makes you diverse from the different man or woman in the worldwide will by no potential die. in addition to, you fail to grasp which you have been in religious existence with God even earlier your actual manifestation in the worldwide and this cycle of religious existence will proceed at dying while your spirit will circulate back to God. for this reason, actual existence in the worldwide could be defined as an era on your religious journey to eternity.

I am a very secure, self confidant man and have had many experiences in my life, including fighting in a war, traveling extensively and have seen a lot of death in my lifetime. I am 33 yrs old but feel like an old soul. I believe in Jesus as my Savior and seek God's will for my life.Having faith takes alot of confidence and courage in my opinion. It would be easier to think that this is all there is and to live life without thinking you have anyone to answer to for anything you've done. I am not a "religious" person, but I do have a lot of faith in my God. I am secure with myself and my beliefs.

Some people need something to believe in. Religion gives them hope and keeps them grounded.

it's quite obvious that the insecure one is you. if you were really confident in your beliefs, you wouldn't need to criticize christians and blame their beliefs on "insecurity".
here's a question you should ask yourself. "why does other people's beliefs bother me so much"? is anyone forcing you to go to church?? is anyone locking you in a room with a bible??
if not, then don't worry what other people believe.
