My baby is just over 6 weeks old and is very alert for his age. He has a bottle then can be awake for up to 3 hrs sometimes whereas my first son fed every 3 hrs and was out like a light each time. I know i probably shouldn't complain but it can be very tiring. The only plus side as such is that he can sleep from 11pm through to 6.30am. Has anyone else experienced this?

I used to have to wake my first to feed her - my second never slept! She was born wide awake and didn't sleep for 3-4 hours after she was born, and didn't sleep much for six months to a year after that. She walked at ten months, and spoke at an early age also. Then when she was about two, all that changed, and she started to love her sleep, and she would sleep anywhere and anytime if she needed to. She often fell asleep in her dinner, which I always thought was the funniest thing! She also fell asleep leaning against a boat rail out in the middle of the harbour! To this day (she's 12 now), she's the only one of my three kids who goes to bed without being asked, and will leave parties etc to go to bed on time!

So while it's tough now, you'll probably find it evens itself out in the end. My eldest, who always slept as a baby, now would stay up till midnight or later if she could.

Every baby is different and if he is staying awake after his bottles that is good because as you said he can sleep through the night. when he is awake during the day it doesn't mean you have to sit there and hold him the whole time he is awake. If you do he will demand it, so start by holding him for a little while after feeding and make sure he has been burped good and changed and loved then start laying him down with a mobile above him to view then he won't be bored. If he cries it is ok, but if you give in and pick him up he will demand it each and every time.
Good Luck.

My 10 week old stays awake almost the entire day! Its a good thing really as it means he sleeps longer at night!!

Today he's been awake all day with just a couple of 15 minute naps but he went to sleep at 10pm and will sleep now right through till morning!

My little one loves his playgym or his cot mobile, and will sit in his chair gazing at the TV (bad I know but he's fascinated with it) or just watching the world go by, while I catch up on housework. It can be tiring though I know what you mean - there are times when I would give anything for an afternoon nap.

Oh my gosh, I thought I was the only one!! My son is 5 1/2 weeks, and he is the exact same way. He naps very little during the day and always wants to be entertained, but he also sleeps through the night. My suggestion, entertain him for a while, but don't feel bad to leave him on his own in a bouncy chair or swing. You can't hold him all day. My son loves the Fisher Price Aquarium toy that you attach to the crib, sometimes I will lay him in his crib and that will entertain him for a while. Good luck!

yup, its normal, every baby is different, my baby (3rd child) never sleeps, too worried she might miss out. She is 10 weeks and sleeps for 10 minutes every 3 or 4 hours in the day, depending on whats going on. I tought shed sleep more at night to make up for it but it doesnt seem to be the case!

Both of my children were very alert, much more so than other babies, and they were both reading by age three and in First Grade by age 4. Count your blessings! You've got a really bright child on your hands!!
