Yer actual R & R gear ..... long skirts, tight blouses, thick waist belts, scarves, ribbons in the hair, high heels, drainpipe trousers with drape jackets and thick sole trainers, string ties, satin shirts, big glitzy belt buckles.

It was not long after WWll and stuff was rather dull as production hadn't got going. People wore suits especially a thing called a demob suit which the army stores dished out when they left. If you have a uniform it would be OK as a lot of youngsters bought them from a place called an army surplus store. Men wore stiff white collars. Shoes were black with toe caps or brown Brogues. Harris tweed sports coats and pipes were worn by students. Hope this helps to get you kitted out. An afterthought - it was the Teddy boy time as well. Thick suede shoes called Brothel creepers and brown overcoats with velvet collars turned up. Hair to be jelled and sticking up or combed back. Gum to be chewed

I suggest you wear a poodle skirt and a button down shirt. You could also try suede flats . Put on some red lipstick (of course) , and wear pigtails or a bob. Good luck!
