I don't know much about College admissions, but would a "C" grade average get you into Yale?

A C average is not even close to what a typical student would need to gain admission to any Ivy League institution.

Oddly, Bush's G.P.A. at Yale was BETTER than Al Gore's G.P.A. at Harvard. Bush also has a MBA from Harvard, Gore doesn't.

Gore's daddy was a Senator, so you decide who deserved to be at an Ivy League school more.

Since when do liberals care about GPA to get into colleges? If that is the case, we should immediately scrap affirmative action.

If the brilliant Albert Gore had won HIS OWN STATE! in 2000, he would have been president, period, Florida would not have been an issue.

OUCH!

Most people get into Yale and Ivy League schools because of their families power and money.

I'm less concerned with Bush's grades 30 years ago - indeed he was a slightly better student than Kerry was - but rather concerned with his lack of judgement now.

What makes a good student doesn't always make a good leader.

Kerry appeared to be responding to critics who suspected that there might be damaging information in the file about his activities in Vietnam. The military and medical records, however, appear identical to what Kerry has already released. This marks the first time Kerry's grades have been publicly reported.

The transcript shows that Kerry's freshman-year average was 71. He scored a 61 in geology, a 63 and 68 in two history classes, and a 69 in political science. His top score was a 79, in another political science course. Another of his strongest efforts, a 77, came in French class.

Under Yale's grading system in effect at the time, grades between 90 and 100 equaled an A, 80-89 a B, 70-79 a C, 60 to 69 a D, and anything below that was a failing grade. In addition to Kerry's four D's in his freshman year, he received one D in his sophomore year. He did not fail any courses.

''I always told my Dad that D stood for distinction," Kerry said yesterday in a written response to questions, noting that he has previously acknowledged that he spent a lot of time learning to fly instead of focusing on his studies.

Kerry's weak grades came despite years of education at some of the world's most elite prep schools, ranging from Fessenden School in Massachusetts to St. Paul's School in New Hampshire.

It is noteworthy, however, that Kerry received a high honor at Yale despite his mediocre grades: He was chosen to deliver his senior class oration, a testament to his reputation as a public speaker. He delivered a speech questioning the wisdom of the Vietnam War, in which he would soon see combat.Continued...

Makes you wonder, doesn't it?
I know students with straight A's from 7th grade on that weren't accepted into Yale and other ivy league schools. Obviously grades alone are not the only factor in being selected.

Would you get anywhere without your family's influence? If you could help your son by influence would you?
How about JFK? His dad bought the W. Virginia vote so he could win in 1960. What about Mitt Romney? How about Michael Douglas, How about Angelina Jolie?
All of these people had help from their fathers. I am not a Bush lover nor detractor. But this old drum you want to beat is worn out.

Probably not, but there are a lot of people at Yale who wouldn't be there if it wasn't for their fathers money and influence.

When your father is a head honcho at the CIA, you can be accepted anywhere....even being a "F" average student........ being rich, white, privileged and spoiled can get you things easily.......remember the scene in "the wedding crashers", when christopher walkens daughter acting out crazy because she wants her father to invite the guys to their house for the weekend.......I imagine thats what Bush did when he told his father he wanted to go to Yale and his father told him he didn't have the grades for it.

i dont really care how he got into yale. but i refuse to stand by a president who most feel the majority never elected in the first place. and who's only accomplishment is to fuel the hatred other countries have for us. i love my country but my opinion is president bush is the worst in our history. once again that is just my opinion.
