Heating oil will run a diesel no problem on its own though not as efficiently. The more modern diesels will not appreciate it. Only problem is that the customs and Excise people go around car parks scraping residue from exhaust pipes and test it to see what type of fuel is being used. This usually is aimed at 4 x 4's that might be on a farm as farmers tended to use their red diesel instead. Heating oil though is not as good a lubricant as diesel and as your fuel injection parts rely on it for lube I would not recomend using heating oil on its own or blended. Lucas engineer for 29 yrs.

A diesel engine will run on heating oil without any other mix of oil. It is illegal if it is a road car as there is a different level of tax on heating oils. I have never heard of engine oil being mixed and I don't think it should be but if you do it a small amouint won't hurt it but it may smoke. I have been stopped by the police in UK and my diesel checked for red dye. On road diesel there are various additives which are not present in heating oil

Red diesel has a red dye added to it, but also an ultra Violet dye is added, to aid roadside checks with the appropriate light,, i believe a muslin like material is also placed over the exhaust when the engine is running, which changes colour to indicate what fuel is being used, Heating oil is not as refined as diesel, and will block the fuel filters, if not changed more regularly, also certain additives (such as a small quantity of engine oil sae 30) and other items need to be added, to offset premature engine wear.

No heating oil, Engine oil in the engine as specifies by the engine oil stick. And then fill the diesel tank with diesel and the engine should run perfectly.

engine oil is put in the sump of a engine and is used to lubricate the moving parts of the engine. heating oil that is used to run heating systems in large buildings, schools ect, is called red diesel and is the same stuff you run your car on, the difference is in heating oil a red dye is added, the same stuff with no dye added is called d.e.r.v. the difference is about £5 a gallon cos there is no tax on heating oil, and if you get caught using heating oil they can confiscate your car

You're gonna wreck the injector pump and other expensive things if you try to blend your own diesel fuel from those components...
