It all depends on how literally you take the word 'vampire'. There is the mythological and fairytale vampire that requires blood to stay alive.

If you take the word vampire to mean something that takes and does not give back...then yes... there are energy vampires everywhere. "Poor Me" syndrome is an example. I'm sure that many people have had conversations with individuals and after words been suddenly aware of how tired they are. When you begin to delve into the realms of energy interaction - not meaning psychic but rather physics and you look at how atoms and molecules interact with each other and you extrapolate that out onto a larger scale with the energy interactions between human beings it is possible to begin to understand both the actual exchanges of energy themselves and the repercussions of the energy that we put out into the world. Surely you have been down and a friend has lifted you out of the blues with a few simple words or actions - perhaps you have been given a hug and felt better.... An energy 'vamp' would be an individual that constantly is taking and does not give back to the individuals who are giving.

Sexual 'vampires' are thriving in our society. Internet pedafiles are a clasic example. Sex is like any other human interaction and ideally there will be an exchange that takes place - giving and recieving pleasure at the same time...this is not to say that everyone who engages in 'free love' is a sexual vampire. It is intention that makes the difference. when an individual is simply looking to 'get off' or fulfill a perversion then it is a one sided experience and there is little concern for the other(s). i would consider that sexual vamperism.

It all depends on how literally you would like to take the myth. If you look at the begining of the myth and try to understand why the myth was created then perhaps there is a more figurative definition of vampire that you have to work with. Have fun with english...don't be locked in by words...or other peoples definitons of them. play with them...create a few new ones even...never be afraid to be creative with the social implications of mythology...afterall we were not there and the prof has no way of knowing if your idea is perhaps what gave seed to the creation of the myth or not...

Pure myth of course, but possibly based on some peoples' appearance. My mother's family for instance often has had very large canines in succeding generations, even visible in old pictures (under tight lips) and I suppose some probably protruded. Mine were cut out when I was a teen because they were a couple of inches long, and started way above my regular teeth and hung down below them--just like fanciful draculas. So certainly like many myths, they may have originated in some physically observed concept, like my eastern european ancestors with large "fangs". Fortunately none of my offspring nor my siblings inherited the trait, but who knows, my grandchildren might if I every get any.

Of course I believe in them. Just because you haven't seen it, doesn't mean it isn't there.
Vampires are a part of history. Do you not notice that there are vampire stories dating back to caveman days? We may not exactly like it, but vampires have been around a long time, and will be around for a great deal longer.
FYI: Vampires aren't necessarily evil, they exist, like we do, and unless they do something evil, they should be respected as, maybe not human beings, but as people.

GO DRACULA!!!!

There is a psychic vampire of sorts but they are not very common. I create them from time to time if I want to hurt someone or if I do it for someone else as a favor. I send them to attach themselves to my targets aura. They then destroy it a piece at a time. Results are sickness, confusion, etc. It is a pain sometimes as it has to be kept up. Just a note, what the other person believes has no bearing on this.

A person looking over your shoulder to steal the answer of a test question could correctly be called a vampire or leech. This is quite true if the word is used in the sense that this person is trying to take from you, without your knowledge, in a somewhat disgusting way.

Fairy tales and myths, exactly.

Of course, there are people that think they are vampires. But thinking it is true doesn't change the reality that these are people that, for whatever reason, choose to live outside of society as a whole.

yes i do. did you ever hear about this baroness of translyvania?she HAD to be a vampire. i forgot her name but she bathed in the blood of about 600 virgins because she thought that their blood re-newed her aging skin. she drank the blood, bathed in it, and used it as make-up. she was totally creepy. she killed every young girl in her area and was only stopped when she started to go after the royal family. maybe her story can help your report. laters.
