I usually allow my emotions to be seen or actively express them in the most socially acceptable manner. This is true of most people.

Some individuals tend to hide their emotions. This is usually done because they have been hurt badly at some point in their past. They still feel the emotions, but actively prevent others from knowing how they feel. This is especially true for feelings of affection and less true for feelings of anger or pain.

People who hide their emotions will often express then very subtly in body language or facial expressions. A sensitive or trained person can still read these emotions.

There are some people who have hidden their emotions so well that they are no longer aware of the feelings. This makes it very difficult for anyone to read what is going on inside them.
