All the future concept cars out there seem to be made just for luxery and comfort. Where is the horsepower. What will we be off roading in. I think its time someone looks for a car that is loud and has a normal gas engine with a few hundred horsepower. Also a truck or something that has insane off road abilities, something that still has the fun of making driving though mud a challenge, but at the same time is more capable. I just dont get who the panzies are that want to drive around in a glass cube powered my a AA battery. I just was thinking electric rc cars are always slow and have the sick goat noise in them. gas rc cars always go about 5 times faster and actually still sound pretty cool. in the future will we all be driving this little 35 horsepower electic cars? Am I the only one who feels like this? I still want power and speed and the growl of a huge engine. Who is thinking of a car for me that i'll be driving in 50 years? I dont mind paying money for gas, its not that bad...

While there's no answer to the testosterone rush of a screaming petroleum engine, it is certainly possible to build electric cars that can compete with the best gas guzzlers.
*
Take a look at the Tesla electric sports car:

*
This electric car has beaten a Ferrari in a head-to-head race. It features a stylish body designed by Lotus, and can travel 250 miles on a charge.
*
How about an electric pickup truck? Take a look at the Phoenix:

*
The Phoenix gets up to 250 miles per charge, carries 5 passengers plus cargo at 95mph, charges in only ten minutes, and has batteries that will last over 200,000 miles. Yes, both the above cars are real cars - not just concepts - you can place an order for one right now.

Concept electric cars have been around since 1832! They have always been in auto shows, there have been 3 wheeled cars as far back as 1900 again nothing new. If they didn't have all these electric cars for the people who care about the environment a little then you should look in to buying a boat because the latest estimates show that if global warming continues sea levels will raise 30 ft..... So get one with some good ground clearance so you can drive over all the electric cars you sank! Now as far as fun cars at the latest auto shows. what about the Lexus IS-F? 350 hp.........doesn't look like a F-ing cube either. Or if your such a fan of American muscle one would think that you would know about the Pontiac G8-GT..... V-8 and a 6 spd tranny!!! oh my sounds like a boring electric car to me.... oh no just kidding. We now have the highest HP cars that we have ever had. Vipers at 550? Volkswagen SUV the turbo diesel Toureg at 550hp 500 ft/lbs of torque isn't enough for you? Nissa Maxima 270 hp? that beats almost every car produced in the 70s! Lets not forget about Mopars new charger R/T or the Subaru WRX sti at 270 as well as the Mitsubishi EVO at 280 or so HP. If your looking for off road capabilities about the bout hummers? Or Even the Hemi Powered Jeeps that 0-60 times are 6.7 seconds.........just for reference the 1967 Camaro SS 1-60 time was 8 seconds!!! A off road capable SUV BEATING AN ICON FOR PERFORMANCE!! don't know how much more you want than that. If you want it loud cut the Exhaust off! We are in middle of the second Horse Power revolution. Oh just for a thought, what about the 255hp HYBRID Honda Accord 32 CITY MPG and a 0-60 in just 6.7 seconds?? If you need something loud to make you feel like a man try looking for a natural male enhancement, of just cut the exhaust off of your lawn mower. My Advise if you don't like "Sissy cars".........don't buy them. AND THE FACT IS EVERYTHING WILL BE ELECTRIC, HYBRID, OR HYDROGEN in the future its time you get over the gas and move on, they will make fun cars as mentioned by others 100hp per wheel is freaking fast! So look around before you ask a question that you could answer by simply going to Google......sorry Yahoo would work too. And stop only watching CNN they twist everything and leave out anything good or that Americans should really know... Thank you for listening

An Electirc R/C Car is the fastest R/C car in the world. Don't be ignorant, Electric R/C technology has surpassed most Gas vehicles and are completely silient. My Revo (gas) goes 40mph, runs for 12min per tank, the manufacturer claims to let it cool down between tanks, I run 3 tank straight and then let it cool down. So 36min, 40mph and I have to fine tune it every time I run it. My converted Revo to Electric runs it feels twice as fast but its only doing 56mph, however it runs for 50 minutes, it takes 47 minutes to recharge.

As for real cars, it sounds like you are either in Special needs courses or you are about 12. Things change to make things more survivable. The technology you are craving, will be there just in a pure silent form of either Electric, or Ethanol or Hydrogen. There is a company that makes an Electric quad, it does not have a range of more than 30 miles right now, however it has 374ft pounds of torque at the wheels. More torque than a brand new Full Size truck at the wheel, and it weighs 3000-6000 pounds less. Do the math. Another company is producing an Electric motorcross bike, weighs 170 pounds has quick change batteries with twice the power of a similarly sized 250. Its not as fast yet, the range on that is 50miles. But it also weighs less than a similar sized dirt bike, so you can really huck some gnarly jumps on it.

So the technology is getting there and you will have serious offroad toys that are more environmentally friendly. You are just in that holding period waiting for the new technology. Kinda like how when Gas engines first came about, people of the time said they were to expensive, to slow, to dirty, to noisy, to unreliable, not enough power, to easy to break, etc. etc. etc.

And its not the gas money thats not that bad, its the future of our children and their children, that is what this whole technology push is, and more homebased middle class jobs for America. *Ethonal plants, Solar Plants, Battery company, Hydrogen facilities* Thats all more power and money we now have.

Are you only a man because of your car? And some of the electric cars being developed are amazingly fast! Power is not the problem (some have in-wheel motors that make over 100 hp each. That means up to 400 hp in a 4WD.) The current problem is getting the batteries to last long enough, and to reduce the weight of the batteries.

If your only source of manliness is your car, then I wonder what you're packing in your shorts.

If you are looking for a vehicle of the future that is still awesome like 4x4 truck, look at vehicles that are powered by Compressed Natural Gas. It has a higher octane than gasoline and the vehicle doesn't make that electric whiny noise. I think if the auto makers would focus on an energy like this you can still have the power, and enviromentally clean benefits.

It's because the gas-guzzling crap that is so "manly" is for one is destroying our enviroment..

In the future, the electric car will still be able to do all that stuff that you want them to do..The technology is new..Appearance comes last..

Cant you be comfortable with your manlyhood without needing a 200000000 horse-power engine on a 30000 ton truck that you need a 16 foot latter to get into?

What makes you think manliness isn't changing. 10,000 years ago mammoth killing was required, 50 years ago crew cuts and smoking, maybe in the future we will all be Gay or really really old and need luxury

actually I own a nice pair of testicles, which detracts from my need to buy "manly" things..
