I don't know what these other people are trying to tell you: Johnny Cash DID go to prison, which is what made him so authentic. Then later on he decided to do his return CD that was recorded at Folsom Prison b/c so many prisoners there had been writing to him, and he felt compelled to be there. But, check any biography, he did go to jail.

He never went to prison, it is only a myth resulting from the song "Folsom Prison Blues."
The following is from Wikipedia - "Although he carefully cultivated a romantic outlaw image, he never served a prison sentence, although he landed in jail seven times for misdemeanors, each stay lasting a single night."

He went to jail overnight in Starkville, Mississippi. He left his hotel room late at night to walk to a store for a pack of cigarettes. On the way he stopped and picked a flower. He was jailed for that.
What a man! What a singer! He and June are missed.

No, he was a big supporter of prisoner rights and prison reform though. He also recorded "Folsom Prison Blues" there.

No he did not. The movie "Walk The Line" reveals the truth about this. Totally GREAT movie. If you have not seen it, I highly recommend it and watch the commentary by the writer on the dvd.
