Clinique's make-up is fantastic, a little more expensive than most, but it'll last you forever and it will STAY in place when its put there!
I reccomend their eyeshadow, and also their pencil eyeliner.

For smokey eyes, rim the eye [only where the lashes are] with black-pencil-liner, and rub gently. Into this rub a thin layer [or thick - depending how much you wear] of black eyeshadow [or brown/purple/whatever deeper colour you choose] and smudge outwards - alternatively you can so this with a small fan-brush.
Cover the lid generously in a lighter shade of whatever colour you are using [brown, purple, etc] if your using black, add a bit of white or use grey.
Then to the outer-eye [not the lid] add a fanned-layer of whatever colour your using, lighter tha the previous shades.

Goodluck, hope this helps!

when you buy eyeshadow its important to test it on your skin. for me, i haven't liked the application of most drugstore eyeshadows. try in on your hand and see if it appears with one swipe. usually those are the good eyeshadows. try nars, mac and shu uemura. a bit pricey though so try getting a palette so that its worth your money. just dont get a loose powder type of shadow. also you might want to dust some loose powder under and around your eyes so that the excess shadow can be easily brushed away. using a wet brush helps apply shadow with less spillage.if you are using black for a main color then maybe try a metallic one so that its not harsh but if you are using black as a filler and liner then get a matte one.

smokey eyes:
1. apply a shimmery nude, silver or platinum base
2. apply the main color (usually darker metallic colors go best but a lot of people are using blue, blue green and silver) on your lids
3. you may opt to darken the crease of your lid with a darker hue or black eyeshadow
4 if you do so then you may also opt to darken the shadow on your upper lash line too. otherwise its also nice to just blend in the dark color with the metallic base and not do the crease thing.
5. take a liner brush with a rounded tip or a wet cotton bud and apply black or the main color or even a color in the same family and apply to the lower lashline
6. i like to apply the main color the the whole lower lash line then black to the outer corner. just follow where your lower lashes go.
i also line the kinda wet part of the lower lids with pencil liner but you dont have to do it if you can't just try to though coz it looks cool.
7. black (liquid) eyeliner on the top extending outward
8.curl and mascara applying in a side to side zig zag motion for a more even application as opposed to the common root to tip way.
9. it looks cool with falsies

nude lips go best with dark eyes

p.s. also look for creme eyeshadows

Well it's different on every skin type because obviously if you're pale it's going to come out darker and if your tanner then it'll come out more grey.
The best brand I've used so far is MAC.

I think the best black eyeshadow is the zara brand or rimmel they are both very long lasting and look good.

If you're looking for a cheap one, Rimmel or Annabelle aren't bad.

If you're looking for a bit more expensive try Sephora or Mac.
