I feel like my positive traits don't serve a purpose.

Yes, and they're called Christians...myself, i only see Objective Reality, but i still see good in people.

We atheists are nothing like what the church leaders are fond of charicaturing us as. We are freethinking individuals who are able to see the Big Picture without the rose colored glasses or blinders of religion. We do not live in despair, quite the contrary; freethought is incredibly refreshing, liberating, and empowering. We are not nihilists, but lovers of life who see it as all the more precious because there's no eternal afterlife.

We do not need the bribe of heaven or the threat of hell to be good people, we believe in being good for its own sake. Through science and reason, we know more about the true nature of the world we live in than a religion could ever hope to offer.

We are not the enemy of christians and other theists. Our quarrel is with irrationality, wishful thinking, superstitions, intellectual dishonesty, and all other forms of thinking that keep mankind mired in darkness, ignorance and hate.

I think it's wonderful if you're positive & see the good in people. You just have to be careful that you don't get taken advantage of or deceived if you are too trusting. I think that it's beautiful to have a loving heart. There is definitely a place for positive people in the world. You attract what you put out there so if you are radiating positive energy then good things will come to you.

I tend to be a negative person & I struggle to be more positive. I tend to see the worst in people much of the time. (I believe people guilty until proven innocent. I'm often suspicious & have a hard time trusting.) I've become cynical over the years, especially given where I work because I am exposed to the dark side of humanity. I've seen some pretty scary things. When you see so much deception, infidelity, crime & evil, it starts to get to you. You start to wonder if there's anyone decent. If there's anyone you can trust. I find my negativity is a disadvantage. It alienates me from people. Sometimes I'm too cautious & limit myself. I avoid opportunities & risks out of fear. You could call me a pessimist or a realist. I'm negative. In some ways practical, in other ways nihilistic.

Keep your rose-coloured glasses on. I envy you that. The world is a beautiful place but there is a lot of ugliness. You're fortunate if you're able to overlook the ugliness...
