My son flew on his own aged 11. You have to contact the airlines, they do assisted travel. You are met and introduced to the steward who will be responsible for him. Then you meet at the other end for the hand over. It worked fine for us.

I do not know what the law is exactly, but I remember seeing on various programmes children flying with a flight attendant or steward at suprisingly young ages. It is worth asking what the airline states.

I remember being sent to and from Germany at the age of ten and eleven alone. But, things might have changed in this more and more pc world, but there is no harm in asking.

I have just thought. Children who are over here from abroad attending boarding schools have to fly alone, so it must still happen. I remember this because I worked in a boarding school which had to be evacuated after a storm and some of the foreign girls went home alone, but others could not and had to stay in the school despite the difficulties.

if a minor is travelling on their own via plane, the airline will usually asist..i.e. checking in, transfers, baggage..i know many children as young as 6 travelling on their own by plane..the air stewards r usually notified by the airline..
