Why do some of you assume I'm emphasizing his "Muslim sounding" name? It's HIS NAME! Just like Hillary Rodham Clinton or George W. Bush.

no, just his name will stop most Americans. They won't even go into the multitudes of real reasons to not vote for him, for which there are many.

Senator Obama is a very personable young man who seems to genuinely like people and care about what they have to say. However, he's a first time senator; he's very young and inexperienced in politics. He lacks the years in D.C. to make him a viable candidate at this time. He needs to develop and grow and learn more about domestic and foreign affairs before he will be a serious contender. I could see it happening in a few years. People who oppose him because of his ethnicity or his name are too shallow to breathe. This is just the opinion of one older white conservative woman.

I don't know, man.

He's pretty different enough to intimidate voters, but a lot of blacks and minorities would vote for him simply BECAUSE he is a minority. There's a whole alliance thing that a lot of people feel.

He also appeals a lot to the younger generation, who don't typically vote because they dislike the candidates we normally have. His online following is bigger than any candidate right now, mind you - he has more hits, more Facebook groups, you name it! Normally the younger generation does not go out and vote, but if they do? They might make a real difference. It's the 18-25 that I would keep an eye on, beacuse they are least likely to be intimidated by his colour or name, and be excited at the prospect of change. He definitely is not your mtoher's president, and that appeals to a lot of people my age.

He supports gay rights, too, so...he might get that demographic as well.

Time did research, and those that have heard of him - have a good view of him. He also ranked high in those who had heard of him saying that they would 'definitely support' him. second only to Hilary. His book is doing really well, and more.

If your typical voters continue to be the one to show up, then I don't think he will be elected. If he gets those who don't normally vote to come in - which he has a good chance of doing - I think he could win.

Not until he shows us what he stands for. Being half-black is not a qualification for normal thinking people. It is for black racist. He also would have to let us in on his advisors. Bush got us bad on that one. If he had competent advisors, outside the old boy network, then he would be viable.
