Americans started getting obese some time ago. It was, apparently the same time that they introduced Corn Syrup into processed foods and fizzy drinks. They did no testing to see how this product effects organisms when they unleashed it on the great american public.
Corn Syrup is made from three enzymatic reactions is used to convert the corn starch to corn syrup. Its major use is in commercially prepared foods as a sweetener and for its moisture-retaining (humectant) properties which keep foods moist and helps to maintain freshness.
But what they never noticed, was it causes organisms that eat it to become obese. When fed to rats, they become obese. When fed to monkeys they become obese. When fed to chimpanzees they become obese. It seems Humans are affected in the same way.
But Corn Syrup is cheap, easy to make, and helps keep foods in tip top condition before they are eaten.
So drink that coke with corn syrup, eat those cakes with corn syrup, eat the biscuits, bread, and 1000 other products that have had Corn Syrup introduced into them, because it is so cheap. And you too, will become obese.
Opps, the Europeans are becoming obese too! They introduced Corn Syrup into their foods without testing too! The British have the most in their foods. Is it any wonder they are the fattest in Europe?

They are HUGE into convenience foods, and super sizes of convenience foods at that; when you go for just a burger, everything is supersized; there are soft drink refills at no extra charge. If you go for a real meal, the portions are GIGANTIC.A starter would do two people for a main course. They also drive everywhere, because petrol is cheap, insurance is cheap and distances are vast. Having said that, they will drive across the road to a neighbours house. They think public transport is for poor people!
They simply eat and eat. You get more obese people, and the very biggest obese people in America than anywhere else. We think we have seen fat people...you aint seen nothin' til you meet a big American!!

Soccer is a sissy sport, doesin't take much to kick a ball into a net. Football is a real sport, I don't like to watch sports..but it's fun to play!
But, Americans are so obese because they eat so much fast food,..just anything that has alot of fat. They just sit and play video games and watch tv for hours on end. Little exercise . Large food portions...you don't really need to cook anymore...you can buy pre-made food. I see packaged hotdogs already on the buns......talk about lazy!
but I'm fortunate I'm in a country with plenty of food and not starving in some other country.

A lot of them walk like no where! They look at you funny when you take a walk from one block to the next as if we are the weirdo's. I have never seen such a car oriented place ever.
Now for the food. The portions on the whole are a rediculous size. I am a good eater but never got past the starters due to portion size.
I think there is a bit of genetic selection of the large and fat variety going on aswell!! Not saying there all the same but the majority is quite high....

I think it has to do with more freedom, living large, the best tasting food in the world, the internet, video games, and American sports on tv. Another problem is stress, a good portion of Americans are living chech to check stressing to pay their mortgage, bills, kids private school, ect. In other countries they have more time to play soccer because they don't have the same luxuries as we do her in the U.S. Too bad we pay a high price for them monitarily and physically.

Overeating and the portion sizes . I am from the UK and yes we do over eat and eat the wrong things at times but McDonald's in the UK and many of the typical junk food establishments serve poultry servings however in America the servings are enormous.
I am not for one moment suggesting all Americans are over weight I think it's a problem in a lot of wealthy countries . In the UK I would say food is expensive but in America it's a lot cheaper.

The reason that some Americans are obese is the same as why so many Brits are obese. They eat too much of the wrong sort of food.

Obesity is a western disorder brought about by fast foods, hidden fats in food, lack of education and overeating coupled with sedentary jobs/little exercise. You may have the problem yourself one day so I wouldn't point the finger if I were you. Take the log out of your own eye before telling people about the splinter in theirs.

Americans eat a high fat diet and lots of it. Americans seldom walk anywhere than to the nearest auto or elevator, then sit down all day to work. This is a generalization, of course, but overeating and lack of exercise is a large contributor to the US weight problem.

Some of us do. Soccer is beginning to catch on here.
But, some of us have to work for a living at a sit down job, and we don't have much time for exercise. We do have lots of good food available.
