I am thinking it's the tank. 4 goldfish would need 50gallons minimum for fancies, and a pond for commons. most people don't know goldfish need this much space so they keep them in bowls or small tanks.

goldfish aren't agressive so my guess is poor water quality, get a test kit for nitrates, ammonia, ect...

The goldfish, or your father, is not killing them. The tank is probably too small. Goldfish need 10 gallons per three inches of fish. If they are overstocked, ammonia will build up in the water and kill them. Your current fish is probably used to some level ammonia and won't die near as fast.
Another thing is ph. Goldfish live from 7.6-9 ph just fine. But big swings in ph can kill them. If the store had a ph of 8 and you suddenly dumped them into a tank with pH7 then they may have gone into shock and died. Same with temperature, they live from 65-82F fine, but a big change all at once is no good.
Lastly is disease brought from the store. The general rule is that fish will show disease from the store within about 2 months after bringing them home. A 8 week quarentine is not unusual. If the fish died overnight they may have had internal parasites or something that made them weak, and then the move from the store was enough to finish the job.
I suggest getting a test kit for ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates. Test your tank water and see if there are toxins built up. If your tank is big enough you can get more fish, but this time acclimate them slowly.

Do some reserch on keeping fish(stuff about water quality, feeding fresh food, cleaning the water often, ect) before getting more; it's not as easy as it might seem.

Well GoldFish like to eat a lot of fish. Sorry to say but they do. Like I used to have a gold fish and it ate a whole bunch of new born baby fish that we just got. He/She is better off alone with out any fish at all.

you need a bigger tank, you also can use a seperation net and put one fish that isn't getting along with the others on one side and the onthers on the opposite side, then they will get use tto eachother but won't be able to attack or harm one another.
