My boyfriend and I have been living together for 7 years.Before he met me,he was with another woman for 9 years.He still keeps a box of love letters from her,and refuses to get rid of them.Should I be mad and insist that he get rid of them or just forget it?We are both in our 50's.

No. Leave him alone about it. That's his past and memories that he is entitled to. Would you want him to take away things and memories from your past? of course not.

We all have a life filled with memories. The letters are merely a tangible reminder. You don't need to worry unless he continually pulls them out and reads them. I keep cards and letters from an old girlfriend. It doesn't mean I want to get back together.

I think that sometimes it's nice to have memories like love leatters to read sometimes. I read my old boyfriends emails sometimes just to remember that feeling of getting letters like that. Maybe you should write him some love letters to get him to forget about those.
But, if he's really unwilling to get rid of something like that really bothers you, that's not a great sign.

no,cause thats from the past.it got nonthing to do with u.it,s just for memories he may want to hold to those.it doesent mean he don,t love u cause i,m sure he does since he,s been with u for 7yrs.just don,t let it bother u cause u don,t want stur up trouble with him.when he,s ready he will get rid of it on his own-i been there too so i understand where your comming from.

yeah i guess u should be because that part of his life should be over...why is he still holding on to it? then again some people may just like to keep these things around because they dont like to let things go. It doesn't have to mean he still has feelings for her...

i think you should just sit down with him and calmly ask him why he wants to keep them and why he has kept them. I don't really think you should be mad at him because maybe every once and awhile he likes to look back and remember how his life used to be and how it's changed by her leaving his life and you coming into it.

get over it. He had a life before you just as you had a life before him. Just because he wants to keep his good memories of that previous relationship, doesnt mean he is going to go back to her.
