I meant to say holding it over the pipe while lit with flame.

I dont want to die while smoking Salvia Divinorum.

As long as the lighter is lit, butane is burned and converted to CO2, H2O and some CO. It is not dissolved in the flame.

I can't imagine there would be enough CO2 or CO to cause you much damage. Especially when compared to the increased risk of cancer your exposing yourself to by smoking. Not to mention the potential charred thumb.

Give it up dude. And don't go around sniffing lit lighters.

This sounds like a good idea for a science fair project. Have several of your friends act as test subjects and try holding the lighter over the pipe of a variety of times. Please post your results here for others to learn the outcome.
