Manager problems?

I just promote to manager position which i never experience in this position. i hired a new employee as a sales. recently, the new employee performance is going bad. He came late and untidy. Can you give me some questions what should i ask ??? i need a polite and empathy questions. thank you

You don't need polite empathy questions, this guy is not doing what he is being paid to do.

Have a PRIVATE meeting with him,
Explain your expectations and give your opinion why he is not meeting your expectations,
Ask him and listen for his answer, to give his opinion of what are your concerns.

Write down the meeting date, subject and gist of both conversations and put it in his file.

If things don't improve, fire him, And next time , be more careful when you hire people.

I would talk to your boss about this before you take any action this is kind of a sensitive situation to step into if you've never had to deal with something like this before......a higher up/owner would be able to help you out better...but at places I've worked before if they thought someone wasn't hygenic or on time they were sent home without pay it's common sense to make sure you're clean enough to be around people

I would ensure that he knows the standards and I would also ask if there is anything that you could do to help him. You never know what someone is going thru. I hope this is just a one time incident. Just put yourself in his shoes before you talk to him. Don't wait to long before talking to him.

Sit him down and tell him you need to chat about some issues. Then ask him straight out:

"What the f&^% do you think you're f^&$ing doing you low life piece of s)&^ worthless scum bag *&)^&* *&)*&^. I'va a mind to kick your f*(ing a&* you dumb f(*&. Now get your s*(& together and get the f)*(^ back to work a&*^h(*&."
