Is there any way I can change my windows me settings from a linux live cd, or some other dos method or something. My computer's resolution got messed up, and now when I reboot, I can't see anything, but I know it's running because i can hear the sounds. The monitor works, because it shows the dell logo and the windows me loading screen, but then it just goes black. Can anyone help me?

When your computer finishes the BIOS test (the 'Dell logo'), it should say something like 'Starting Windows...' briefly, before the Windows ME logo appears. When it does, hold down CTRL. (If that doesn't work, try F1 or F8. Microsoft keep changing the key.) This will bring up a boot menu. Select Safe Mode and see if you can get to your desktop that way.

You should be able to change your resolution from there, although I haven't used Windows ME for years so I can't tell you off the top of my head.

i imagine of you may be extra efficient off with Linux Mint. i have were given been utilizing Mint for the perfect three hundred and sixty 5 days or so and that i actual like it. even although, in case you want an spectacular higher boost to hardware average performance, attempt Lubunu (acceptable less than). it really is in holding with LXDE it really is an exceptionally gentle-weight pc manager designed to run on older, slower hardware. it may carry out tremendous on the T42 that you've. provide it a attempt, and in case you don't love it you should continually purely throw Mint on the pc.
