My wife wants us to get cemetary lots now and I just retired. Is this a good idea as I think this would be a waste as all i want to do is get creamated and the ashes thrown in the local park?

It is your wife, humor her. Better than getting the cold shoulder or the "look". It is a few bucks, but if she dies before you do, you can plant her there, or cremate her and sell the lots off for a nice time somewhere. Consider them an investment. If you relocate to another state, you could sell them later for more than you paid, and make some dough.

You should go ahead with making the burial, cremation arrangements now; while you still can. You never know what will happen tomorrow, later today or 5 min. from now. I know to many young people that have died!! I recently had a 57 year old nephew die of a heart attack while taking a shower. And also a 49 year old cousin die of cancer. Both expected to live longer although my cousin knew that it could be sooner, she was prepared~as much as a person can be, anyway.
Even if your family is allowed to dispose of your ashes in a park, they will need some kind of marker/memorial for you. Think about your family's needs also!
Best Wishes and I pray that you won't need these services for years to come. But be prepared for your family's sake!

Well that's up to you. If you think you kids/grandkids will be content scattering your ashes then go for it because yes its cheaper but you may want your family to have somewhere to visit and talk if they need to. You could go for the cremation option and get a plaque put on a tree or bench in the park.

what if you get divorced? is there a buyout option for one of you? i take a worst case scenario right away to assess potential damage. maybe that isn' even the worst case scenario, there may be worse ones.

is it a good idea to let her make all the decisions for you? you seem to have an idea of what you want but you would change to her decision because of something she has or does for you? is that selling your soul? in my opinion it could honestly depend on 1. how hot she is and 2. how down she is for you.

i'm single so taking my advice will probably bring you closer to where I am, but i'm not complaining or anything!

my point: make your own decision, it is a personal preference.

No.....and why waste the money now..... a lot will cost you....but the price of the burial will be far greater. I think the park is a wonderful idea.

Good god no, what a waste of time and money. Let your kids worry about it. I've told mine a bin bag is fine. I'm not bothered. Burn the body and throw the bits away.

Yes, it's a good idea to get lots when you are young.

When you are older and married you won't get a lot at all. You'll be lucky if you get any after you're married.
