Our politicians are not ready to lose their vote banks. They are afraid of taking stern measures. They are afraid of making birth control mandatory. They are worried about one community voting against them if family planning is made compulsory.

its because there are a lot of uneducated people who still believe in the policy of the more no of people , the more hands to work but they dont realise that that also means more mouths 2 feed.
there are also very bad sex education in the country, people dont have too much knowledge of contraceptives, etc.
then again there are certain states where influential people (read politicians) give out pizes and money for more no. of children in the family, when it should be the opposite.
but then again things are changing, states like Mahrashtra are trying to implement a law that forbids a person from contesting an election if he/she has more than 2 kids.also the govt is taking many measures to promote pregnancy control by advertisements of anti pregnancy pills and stuff like dat.

Our country"s history is that earlier people were brainwashed that if population increases then ther will be security.When i was a schoolgoing boy i remember others asking my parents as to how many children they had.;it was a matter of pride to have more children and those with less children were made to feel guilty.Since those days population has increased many folds and now in spite of awareness even one family one chid also contributes significantly making u feel the astonishing figures.

Most of the poor people can not afford to buy condoms. Another problem is due to joint family practices, they get very little privacy and they got to finish it as fast as possible. They can't wait to do a good job.
