I'm happy with my Dell Inspiron 1501. It has a speedy AMD Turion64X2 processor, 60 GB hard drive, 1028 MB Ram, DVD/CD-RW. Built in wireless and wired network cards and modem. 15.4" wide screen LCD. The battery lasts about 2.5 hours but a better is available. It has a built in memory card reader for your camera. Vista is now standard on new computers.
It's a great deal for around $700.

I'm selling mine because it was too heavy to lug back and forth to my classes but the Dell inspirons and other lower level dell laptops are great for the basics. and they are cheap too. starting at under 700.
