Autobahn great in Germany. Stupid idea in America.
I don't trust most of them at 65mph, let aolone 140mph.
They're too busy drinking, eating yackin' on cell phones, putting on makeup, yelling at eachother.

Here are just a few reasons why the U.S. doesn't have highways like the Autobahn.
1. The standards for receiving a drivers license in Germany are much, much higher than in the U.S. Thus, a new driver in Germany will have had much more training and be required to demonstrate a much higher ability.
2. The population of Germany is much smaller. Therefore, fewer cars on the road.
3.The basic highway structure in the U.S. is different than in Germany.
Also, as the result of population increases there is currently movements toward reducing the speed limits on the Autobahn.

The Interstate Highways in the USA are an offshoot of President Eisenhower's experience with the autobahns when he was the commanding general of the European Theater during World War Two. However, they were built 50 years ago and carry ten times the traffic of the autobahns, because the USA does not have the advantage of the shorter distances in Europe nor the effficient and universal train service of Europe.

You mean Autobahn? We have them - interstates. It's just that Americans can't control their cars at those speeds, and most cars here don't have tyres rated for those speeds. Ever see a blowout at 130 mph? Its not pretty. The other reason that we have such low speed limits on our expressways is that they are not built as well as their German counterpart. This is why our roads acquire so many bumps and potholes every year.
Anyway, much of the autobahn now has speed limits, as traffic has increased on some sections.
