I assume you are talking about chess. Forking is when one piece simultaneously threatens two or more opponents pieces in such a way that the opponent cannot save one of the pieces.

Its a chess thing, when a piece or pawn threatens two of the opponents pieces at the same time. most often this is done with a knight or a pawn supported by another pawn. one of the opponents pieces is often the king, forcing a king move and leaving the more valuable piece to be taken by the lesser piece.
