it is the players that are underperforming they need to learn to play to there full ability and stop making excuses. THe manager selects the team and tactics and the england squads players are good enough to play for any team so why are they not playing well

I'll get a lot of thumbs down here but i dont blame mCclaren too much. England's problem is the lack of really genuine class. if you take Gerrard out and with Joe Cole injured England really lack a cutting edge. they are weak up front but actually quite strong at the back.
some of mCclaren call ups are a bit strange. swp isn't Chelsea class so i cant understand how he's rated good enough for England. Barry should have been in the squad under Ericsson's as he is one of the few left footed English men in the land. lampard should be relegated to the bench to allow Gerrard to play his normal game.
until England come up with a really top class striker (forget about Owen as he's too often injured) they will always struggle no matter who's in charge.

Because everyone always gives the England manager a hard time, no matter what.
It isn't just down to the players, but it's obvious from watching the teams at the top of the premiership that having the right manager does matter.
I say we should start ignoring whoever is managing England (and the team itself) and not pay them any attention until they actually start playing well and displaying the talent that our team should actually be able to (given the cream of English talent in the team). Maybe when all concerned think nobody's taking any notice they'll start playing a bit better (wouldn't be hard) and getting the results they should, so that people DO notice them.
Our team has never been able to hack the pressure so I say lay off them, ignore them (therefore no pressure lads) and then they can show us what they should be capable of!

he's an average manager who won the league cup in the pinicle of the top four not caring less about the trophy.he acheaved a uefa cup final where they were mauled by sevilla and completed a fantastic prem season by finishing 17th.That qualifies him for jack!!! He made a fatal floor by not only taking the pitiful world cup display out on Englands second best performer during the world cup David Beckham but by slagging off Sven.
Sven is a div he only cared about his wallett but he's a million times better than Mclaren and he's proved that.
I really think Sam Alerdice should have the job mainly because he would make England tough people would come to wembley and get kicked off the pitch no one would relish playing england.
Yes it wouldn't be classy football but when your winning people are singing!.
One fact is tho if Sam was the choice he would have taken the captaincy and given it to Gerrard but beckham would be a fundamental part of the england squad and like majic he would have probably come back to the premiership and we would have a class act on the t.v each week(again).
Sam has won certain things like the championship the respect of every team in the premiership and the respect that he can take any player any age and make them good at there job and win games the ability to graft out games. With world class players he could make England acheave something special but hey reality panned out and instead of taking the peoples choice they opted for Mr PFA to do the job instead and for another 2 years minimum we get to moan about him.

As individuals the players might have talent but can't perform as a unit. This has to be the managers fault. His tactics and selections show how average he truly is and prove that the FA made a poor choice when they picked him for the England job

A great manager not only picks the team and sets the formation but says the right things to the right players, keeps the players confidence alive and grides out results when things are not going well.
That is why McLaren is not a great manager.
Simple as that.
Look at the great managers like Stein, Ferguson, Clough, Graham, Wenger, Mourinho, Busby, Shankley and Paisley.
McLaren is not in there league.

...McClaren is a Horse disguised as a Human, and all the players are his Fodder!!
Why don't we have the Technical Ability of most other Countries in the World?
Why are we so predictable?
One Answer - we are arrogant and set in our ways, and can't be bothered to learn how to play "proper football" - not that Sh*t you see in the Premiership week after week, played at Breakneck speed, little skill, and conducted by Cheats!!
Football in this Country is finished - and has been for at least 30 years!!
I t's all Spin and Hype - and if you don't believe me, I'll break yer legs!!!!

They are the same players that played under Sven's management, so you can't blame the players if the new management has different tactics, cos it's those tactics that are losing us the game.

Well i don't think that it all his fault any way but partly because he dropped BECKHAM what for, also he pick the wrong formation and plays the wrong people in the wrong place. LAMPARD and GERRARD don't play well together, he is using the team as a science project. The faith of ENGLAND fans rest on his shoulders and he can't handle it ! =)

i don't think mclaren has the nous for the job, also don't think the players respect him. defence is ok, play carrick holding, lampard pushing forward stevie g on right, with lennon on left until cole fit enough. rooney and crouch up front. defoe, bent, wright phillips, and hargreaves on bench to change things around. the man for the managers job would be martin O'Neil.
