Without using a hub, router or switch ... the RJ-45 must be a "crossover cable" type (not just a regular RJ-45 cable) in order to allow peer to peer networking on the 2 PCs.

Just plug each end of the crossover cable into both PCs. No diagram necessary.

all the solutions so some distance are especially lots maximum suitable. in case you have sufficient money, purchase an Ethernet swap (Linksys or Netgear are nicely-well-known producers). they're especially low fee at the instant. you will possibly desire a pair of CAT5 without delay-via cables. A swap delivers you greater flexibility for the destiny (would desire to you come back to a call to characteristic greater desktops, or connect with the internet). you will would desire to have the two desktops logically interior the comparable community too. verify the abode windows help documents for that. If cases are annoying, get a flow-over cable. the fee relies upon on the Ethernet playing cards put in on your desktops. a actual previous card delivers you 10 Megabits/2nd. a greater contemporary (rapid Ethernet) card delivers you one hundred Megabits/2nd. while you're in simple terms connecting 2 desktops at the same time, speed wont fairly be a controversy. good luck.

Easy, just purchase a ethernet switch. You just plug it in & connect both of your ethernet cables from your computers to it ( that's the cables with the big telephone adapter on the ends)called RJ-45 and plug in your cable from your modem...easy no software to install. Just watch the red connection lights come on.

I just bought one for the same reason at Office Depot for 14.99

Happy Networking

You need a cat5 crossover cable to connect 2 PCs directly together. A crossover cable simply has the wires reversed in their order on one end.
