transcription occurs (DNA into RNA) then RNA is translated into amino acids. each amino acid is added to the end of the polypeptide chain (fancy name for protein). RNA is made up of nucleic acids and every amino acid has a three nucleic acid codon. all chains start with a methionone (codon AUG) and end with codons UAA, UAG or UGA. in between those sections there is a functional protein that is cut out. hope this helps.

dna is transcripted into mrna when transcription factors bind to dna. the mrna then goes through some modification like processing. the mrna is translated into a polypeptide chain, or protein, which involves ribosomes and trna also.
